Anyone running thick oil? Like an xW-50?

I probably should have experimented with a 40 wt before going straight to the 50. However, there shouldn't be any problem, besides perhaps lesser gas mileage, right?

Anyone running thick oil? Like an xW-50?

I'm currently running stock boost... I may get an ECU reflash that gets me a slight raise, but not by much. The reason I felt comfortable with the 50 weight is because Subaru release an Elf co-branded product in Japan called "Les Pleiades" which is a 10w-50 oil...

Anyone running thick oil? Like an xW-50?

Hi all, My turbo Subaru consumed about a quart of M1 10w-30 over 5k, and the same amount of GC 0w-30 by 6.3k. That led me to put in some Syntec 5w-50 this past weekend (the specs look good-- it's a group III/PAO mix, API SM/SL, ACEA A3, ILSAC GF-4). Anyone have any opinions on Castrol Syntec...

    Mobil 1 10w30, 5365 mi, 2004 Subaru Impreza STi

I got my first UOA done on my Suby, and here are the results. I ran 5,265 miles of mostly freeway driving with occasional canyon runs (always with proper warm up before hammering it). The car was refilled with GC for this next interval. EQUIPMENT MAKE: Subaru OIL USE INTERVAL: 5,265 Miles...

    Floor Jacks vs. Bottle Jacks

I bought a floor jack + 2 jack stands from Sears a couple weeks ago on sale. Today I was back and saw that I could've bought a bottle jack instead of the floor jack for the same price... It looks to me like the bottle jack has the same or better lift capacity, and is a lot lighter to lug...

My 88 Civic LX with 195,000 miles on it is my beater. Still runs smoothly, and gets 35 mpg to boot.

    Does GC have FMs?

I don't believe GC has any friction modifiers since the "Energy Conserving" stamp is absent from the API donut. However, I'm far from being an expert... anyone else have any ideas?

What not to do with your Enzo...

Winston, you're thinking of the McLaren F1... which has the driver seat in the middle. The Enzo has the regular driver/passenger seats side by side.

    How do I make a brew from 0W30 and 20W50 (Amsoil S2000)

AndyH, that's interesting... my '04 STi manual has a slightly different viscosity temp chart. In my chart, the upper limit of the 5w-30 line is at 104 degrees F (with 0w-20 added to that line). I didn't know they changed the manual for the '05 models. Nice car and name, BTW.

Want to lube my antenna + sunroof tracks-- silicone spray or White Lithium?

Silicon spray is a "dry" lube, and will not attract dirt and dust, so I would use that on your antenna. Lithium is "wet." The next time you're in the store, spray a little bit of them both in the caps, and you'll see their consistencies. Also, this topic might've gotten better response in the...

    Honda Engine Air Filter

Prices at www.hondaautomotiveparts.com can be a little high. Since they're located in Rhode Island, the additional cost for the air filter I ordered was about 10 bucks plus shipping + a 4.95 handling charge (shipped to N. California). This made the total about $28. Getting from the local dealer...

M1 or Pure1 on turbo Subie?

I wouldn't worry too much about supposed "restriction" with the P1. Keep in mind Subaru OE was a purolator for a while before they switched back to the roki's. And I personally would use the proper filter recommended by purolator (PL14612) for the suby turbo, because I have heard (although I...

Xw-50 that can be run in winter...

midknight, when you switch to synth, mobil 1 5w40 t&suv has had good results on that motor. I plan to switch to that next in my sti. As far as when to switch, everyone has their own opinions. I switched at 25k, and things seem good.
