    Mobil MX2T in a snowblower!

For the experts here, I have a couple bottles of MX2T 2 stroke motorcycle oil. As I have no motorcycle, would it be ok to run in a snowblower when it gets down to 20 below zero? If so, at what mix rate. The snowblower is probably 16 years old. Thanks, Hapuna

    No Zerk fittings........

On many vehicles, there's no Zerk fittings. Is it worthwile to squeeze the rubber boot occasionally to get some of the grease back on the metal-metal friction point? Would this increase the joints longevity?

    2000 Toyota 1.8 oversize filter

Hi All, I'm using the standard size SuperTech oil filter on a 2000 Toyota Corolla 1.8 (same size as the factory unit). Has anyone used an oversize ST filter; if so which did you go with? I've heard rumors that the equiv to a PH3600 would work; just checking what others have used. Thanks, Hapuna

    Great waxing tip!

I learned this from someone years ago, and it works great. After applying a liquid or paste wax, let it dry. Then apply a really light coat of cornstarch (like the baby powder type). It really makes buffing to a great shine easy! Hapuna

    Toyoyta 1.8 oil filter

Anyone know if the ST3600/PH3600 is suitable as an oversize oil filter for a ST4967? Are there any others that would be suitable for a 2000 1.8 litre Corolla engine? Thanks, Hapuna

    Power loss with Heavier Oils

Does anyone know the average HP loss going from a light oil to a heavy oil? Lets take a small 4 cyl engine; how much "loss" of HP is there between running a 5w-20 v/s a 5w-50 oil? Is there a large difference based on engine speed/load? Hapuna

    American v/s Mexican ST filters

Any idea of the quality differences between the American and Mexican SuperTech oil filters? Is Champion gradually moving all production to Mexico? Do they use the same media?

How difficult to "create" a synthetic oil

Seems like theres only a few manufacturers of base oils, and the additive market is limited also. So how hard is it to create a high quality synthetic? Does Lubrizol have standard "packages" of additives to be mixed with the base oils? How much customization is available from the additive...

    Chevron, Pennzoil, or Shell?

A local retailer is having a sale on Chevron, Pennzoil, and Shell dino oils (all about the same price). I beleive the Chevron and Pennzoil are both hydrocracked; not sure on the Shell. If you had a choice, which would you choose?

    Fantastic claims for some synthetics

Over the years, I've heard so called "testimonials" claiming by switching to a particular brand of synthetic oil, the user experienced a 15% to 20% increase in mileage. I dont doubt that synthetics may flow easier, but these statements seem unrealistic. There's so many other variables, such as...

Mobil 1 ATF in 2000 Corolla automatic

Anyone see any problems switching from the factory ATF to Mobil 1? On another board, someone stated Toyota automatics dont like Mobil 1, but didn't give a reason!

Oversize filter for 2000 Toyota 1.8

Anyone know of an oversize filter for the Toyota 1.8 4 cylinder? The standard filter is quite small (ST4976); I would think there must be a readily available oversized one? Hapuna

Toyota Power Steering fluid (change to Mobil 1 ATF)

Saw some of the posts about Mobil 1 used in power steering system. A 2000 Toyota manual states Dextron II or III can be used in the power steering. I looked at the existing fluid, and its a light amber color. Is it OK to totally replace the old stuff with Mobil 1 ATF, and does Toyota have some...

    Radiator Blocking in Cold weather

Any thoughts on the merits of blocking air through the radiator during "very" cold weather? I'm talking -20 to -50 degrees f. I would think the thermostat would do its best keeping the engine at temp. Regarding the oil pan, there must be a tremendous amount of heat lost; an invitation for sludge...

    Bypass Filter on Motor Week

Anyone know the brand of Bypass Oil filter shown on Pat Goss' segment of Motor Week? Looks like a very good unit.

    DIY Rustproofing

Any thoughts on products available for rustproofing/undercoating? For those of us in the North, its getting to be that time of year. I want to stay away from the "rubberized" compounds that crack after a few years. Amsoil had a product at one time that came in a gallon container that was ok; now...

    ARCO Graphite Oil

Anyone remember ARCO Graphite Oil? Supposedley, they found a method of suspending the graphite in the oil without settling. I used it in a couple vehicles and it worked fine; havn't seen it in years. Only problem was it went in BLACK! Hapuna

    Low sulphur fuel & wear

A local gasoline distributor is highlighting their "earth friendly" fuels, stating all their grades of gasoline have 75% less sulphur than competing brands. I know sulphur in general is a bad thing, especially regarding acids in the crankcase. But I also seem to remember that sulphur can act as...

Bent crankshaft on a new Briggs 5.5hp engine.........repairable?

I acquired a 3 week old "Yard King" self propelled lawnmower with a Briggs 5.5hp Quantum engine from a neighbor. She said she just bought it and hit a tree stump and it started vibrating. I put it on its side and can definatley see a slight wobble. It starts and runs with a slight vibration, and...

Long Term Effect of gasoline additives (Lucas, Techron)

Anyone know if any studies been done to see what the long term effects of gasoline additives might be? I'm specifically thinking of Techron and Lucas UCL. One is primarily for injector cleaning, while the Lucas seems to primarily lubricate the moving parts in valve/upper piston area. But what...
