Fram Endurance / Walmart End of Life ?

Fram states in writing the efficiency has not changed, on boxes and on the website. They have to test assembled oil filters for efficiency. For me I guess that’s enough, but I wont be buying more to be only disappointed by other factors.

    Fram Synthetic Endurance cut open

Does the leaf spring fit tight or loose in the hole? There is a radius on the spring where it contacts the end cap, significant one. If tight in end cap, the flat area of the spring isn’t bottoming out. It should seal pretty well that way. Champ Labs made early in 2023.

Efficiency Info on the New Mobil 1 Filter

Pentius PLXL4967 open end view. Maybe 1-2 mm gap by eye, or about 1/16”.

    Ecogard X4610 C&P

Fram makes filters in 2025 that likely have a defective adbv new in the box, and Walmart sells them as ST3614. The adbv may not cover the inlet holes. If the filter is knocked hard enough there is no method to keep the adbv centered even if it accidentally was made right. I don’t know where the...

    Mobil 1 M1-113A C&P

The Micro Select in the drain pan looks more like a Toyota baseplate than other versions. Has p type gasket too, possibly.

    ST16 vs ST3614 vs ST9688

The ST3614 was changed this year, avoid it due to likely adbv not sealing, plus shoddy construction inside with the end caps. The older one with extra plate is not the same.

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

It’s been like that a long time. It doesn’t have to be a photo or they could take one. It serves the purpose as an illustration. Oh, I thought I was the only guy on the site. I am not sure it’s all guys. Errors from advertising illustrators are not uncommon. Don’t look at your box of cereal...

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Repeat of what I said. You’re telling me what I wrote as if I didn’t write it. That’s ok. The crimp is a drawing, the can should turn into the curl in the crimp. The adbv is wrong too. It’s for general illustration. Mopar filters which are practically identical, specify a glue filled seam in the...

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Picture for a better look at the construction of the base and seam. For more arguing. The secondary base cover is the one with the seam to the can. This is a drawing really not a picture. Purolator has a second plate that goes into the base plate holes. PG has copied this it must be good. Other...

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Correct, it’s too thick to deform on the engine. The plate extends straight out to the crimp in a correctly formed base plate. Check WC’s pics of base plates on this filter.

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Unless the pic is distorted which op said the other new one was not, it was the machinery making the base plates messed one up. Oil pressure is not going to bend out a thick piece of steel like that before other things happen. The base is misshapen, so the crimping can’t be done right.

Premium Guard PG6161 — Cadillac ELR

PG seems to have copied the unusual Mann style base plate for these cars. German Opel derived engine I believe. Even though says Made in China on it. No adbv either like oe GM. It seems PG is careful about meeting the specs.

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Some persons eyes should have seen the bent base plate somewhere on the production line. I wouldn’t be afraid to use the new design, the can thickness is about like Fram, thin, but adequate. As seen by the other filter bought, a correctly made base plate doesn’t pull off from the seam in use.

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

Good you found the video. The can is a little thinner but imo it was a defective base plate. The base plate is too thick to bend by oil pump pressure like the bad one you pictured. That the new filter works fine means the engine is ok. The new bypass valve is ok, been used for many years...

Motorcraft Oil Filter Catastrophic Seam Failure

The base looks very strange there. They’re not domed like that, outside of the gasket area. Is that how it was when purchased?

Rural King supposedly replacing Prime Guard with Wix.

No one said anything about hating America is buying a Chinese oil filter or a Japanese car. That’s exaggeration. We also bought vw bugs in large quantities. Volvos, and others. Europe and Japan liked smaller cars generally ahead of the US. It’s a testament to our people’s fairness to others...

    NAPA Gold 1515 C&P

Ford Motors does like the base end bypass. Not sure what would have that except Motorcraft. Maybe Wix does too. Doesn’t have to be base end but that’s what they promoted at one time.

    Supertech ST3614 vs Fram PH3614.

I’m pretty sure just by the picture the Supertech has the off center adbv and is not covering some inlet holes. It looks like the edge of the adbv can be seen. The Fram is probably no good either, it looks to have the same defect. People would be wise to steer clear of these. Shouldn’t be on the...

    Microgard MGL57060 C&P

Date code and country of origin? I thought the plastic like adbv would want to be seen. Nitriles aren’t made the same over all companies. Silicone always seems springier but some nitriles are springy enough. Now since I am not in the market for oil filters, what’s the point anyway? People ask...
