It's also drying out the gas and more reason to add the UCL. I've also read alcohols like ethanol and IPA do very minimal cleaning just like gasoline itself. It's amazing to see people come up with their own reasoning to justify not spending a few dollars.

Just because it's top tier doesn't mean the quality of the gas is always clean and without water. Non-top tier is even a bigger risk. That's assuming they are even adding those additives (who truly knows). Plus they're not using proven cleaners like PEA and could be argued not enough fuel...

It's called preventative maintenance. Waiting for a problem to occur first isn't always the right strategy. It's a hassle to prefill a couple 6oz bottles and leave them in the trunk? The cost amounts to a dollar extra per fillup if you buy the gallon. I do exactly the same thing for Lucas's UCL...

Before this thread I would have called any UCL a "friction modifier". Now I realize it's just snake oil.

This is a really convincing video by Lubrizol. They even suggest some of the friction modifiers will fall into the crankcase afterwards, which will boost your motor oil with extra friction modifiers. Great marketing!

Isn't TC-W3 oil clean burning (ashless)? Didn't realize it carbons up. I've only used Lucas and Rislone so far but considering move to TC-W3 because its cheaper and many people have had success with it. My engine sounds better using this stuff that's all I know. If it's coating these vulnerable...

From what TMOG presented, the oil lubrication in the piston ring area isn't sufficient. Watch the video. The UCL in the fuel will coat that area along with the top of the piston. Not to mention lubricate fuel pump and injectors.

That may be true but I think I've seen enough evidence now that suggests a UCL may reduce friction, combined with a PEA cleaner. That's enough for me to consider it worth a shot. A few ounces of 2-stroke oil costs less than a dollar and isn't harming anything.

Thanks for the great response Foxtrot. May I ask what fuel additives you were involved in making? I figured there would be no definitive answer since Shell doesn't disclose what's in Nitro. Then adding additives later changes the formulation. But I'll continue to distrust what's at the pump even...

Autozone has BOGO Techron Complete and High Mileage this month. The High Mileage has friction modifiers.

Someone brought up what if the UCL flashpoint is higher than the temperature in the cylinder. Would some of it not combust and end up in the sump. I assume very little if you're only mixing in 6 ounces per tank but I have no idea.

Why can't aftermarket additives accomplish the same goal?

I checked the flashpoints of MMO, Rislone, TC-W3 and all are in the 200F range like most additives. Lucas fuel treatment is 450F! I assume the low dose of Lucas mixed with a full tank of gas wouldn't cause any combustion issues and fuel dilution. Is this fair to say? Pouring the entire gallon...

Which item do you mean? I average about $5 per tank between a cleaner and ucl. But I agree who cares if you believe it's helping even a little. I bought a used car with unknown history so I feel it's justified.

Lots of people buy a gallon of TC-W3 oil and use 2-4 ounces, probably the most cost effective way. I just have a few quarts of Lucas/Rislone that I'm going through right now. I do think it makes my engine sound smoother and the arguments for UCL that I've read in this forum made sense to me, but...
