Have you ever spoken a eulogy?

I did for my mother. I thought she deserved something much more personal than the generic effluvia normally let lose in such circumstances. I had a good deal of warning, so I was able to consider it carefully.

Engine Oil Filter for Chevy 5.7 Vortec

The official filter for a Vortec 5.7 is a Delco 1218. I believe this is the same as the PS5, PS30, etc series, except one has an antidrainback valve and one doesn't (probably due to the roller lifters).

    KYB gas adjust first impressions

I used them exclusively for twenty five years on mid-size cars and trucks. The ride was perfect for my taste, a little stiff at first, but to me they get perfect quickly. I had one pair that got a little lazy after 100K, but the warranty took care of that. My current vehicles are newer and don't...

Movies that you felt had disturbing subject matter

I agree on Gone Girl. At the time I saw it, my wife was exhibiting very similar behaviors. Extremely chilling.

Economics of running a small window AC unit

They now have small cassette heads which will fit between 16" joists - Non-obtrusive head

    World's Largest Gas Station Opens

An only slightly exaggerated description... And to the remark about the traffic, the lots are generally big enough to allow better flow than your typical smaller station.

    Hospice Care

Yes - In rereading your posts it is apparent we encountered much of the same. Thank you for bringing this up, and best wishes.

    Hospice Care

That article describes just a hint of what we went through with my mother. From our experience, the problem is not just with the hospice industry, but that it is just a part of a callous, profit making racket done by doctors, hospitals, and rehab and skilled nursing facilities, all of whom...

    Toe Plates

I own toe-plates and have been setting toe using tape measures for over fifty years. The way it was done before toe plates was to scribe the tires, and then measure on each side using the same tape. The Longacre device shown above is the modern equivalent. The disadvantage of plates is that...

    A biker club story

I have a friend who is a biker, used to own a biker bar, and had friends and road with a similar (or perhaps the same) organization. He also had friends in law enforcement, some of whom had motorcycles. He went to parties for both, and was asked to affiliate more closely with both. He said the...

    Lifespan of Tonneau Covers?

Compared to yours, not that often. The first three years it was hardly ever opened. The last three years there's been a trip a month with several openings each.

    Lifespan of Tonneau Covers?

My MX4 has sat totally exposed to the Texas sun for six years, and other than fading, still works correctly. It leaks some, but I pretty well expected that. The latches work fine.

    Anyone familiar with scrapping metal?

The way scrap places operate can vary widely. The best I've been to has various stations where you drop off the various metals and they will further segregate and pay you for them appropriately. At the worst one they had a guy who looked at your load, maybe did a little probing, and offered you...

Saw a wheel come off today.

In fast rush-hour traffic I saw a tow truck with a vehicle behind which had had the third member removed. The wheel, drum and axle from one side were bouncing all over and amongst cars. If it didn't spear someone through their windshield it was a miracle. I also saw a trailer dual wheel come...

    Thermal Imagers

Keep in mind that Home Depot, at least in my area, rents thermal cameras. It immediately showed spots in my house where there was no insulation.

People born in the wrong decade

I was too young for the sexual revolution and free love, and too old when hook up culture came around.

What are the most critical preventative maintenance parts on older vehicles?

The factory fuel pump in my 97 Silverado died at about 110K. The aftermarket replacement died at 105K. That's enough trend for me to decide when to replace next, assuming it ever makes it to that mileage as a secondary vehicle.

How much was your cateract surgery?

It depends on the lens and type of surgery you pick. My wife just had it done with laser surgery and the most expensive lens. Before insurance it was $7K per eye. There were two cheaper lenses - exact prices I don't remember.
