Just adding in my 2000 XJ with 4.0 I use Rotella t6 and in my 73 Nova with a Blueprint 355 motor I use VR1 10w30. No issues runs good and quiet....well except the Nova it's kind of loud at least my neighbors tells me that...lol.

Thanks for the info and no your not making me overthink it. Speaking of thick oils....I remember back around 1988 I had a Dodge 600 that I ran 30w50 in it all year around don't even know why and pretty sure it wasn't recommended...lol

Thanks for the info. I run Rotella T6 15w40 in my XJ and love it! You wouldn't have any concerns with a oil that thick when the builder recommends 10w30 and the motor probably still has less than 10k?

We were 16 at the time and was back in 1982. So we didn't know better and had no way to google it..lol. Was funny though as back then we had full service gas stations and would pull in and tell them to check the oil also. Most would look around for the dip stick and say "This ain't a SBC350!"...

My 74 we stuffed a Pontiac 350 in it had to do cutting of front cross memeber to get it to fit.

Motor is just a 355 from Blueprint motors with aluminum Vortec style heads..not a hard hitting cam just street-able.

I have had a 72,73 and a 74 so far. I've always likes the Nova because everyone has Camaro and Mustangs...

Thanks, From what Ive read they both have the same amount,13% Zinc and 12% Phosphorus but Castrol GTX Classic is easier to find here and is cheaper. May go ahead and switch after my next oil change.....edit... WELL LOOKS LIKE i WAS WRONG...no Castrol GTX classic in 10w30 just 20w50 guess I'll...

I have a 73 Nova with a crate 350 motor with about 8000 miles on it and it's driven maybe around 3000 miles a year. Has a roller cam but I have been using Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE 10w30 Motor Oil due to the high zinc anyways even though it's not needed from what everyone says. It does sit alot...
