    High Performance Lubricant’s discount codes

Nice!! Maybe it was a proximity thing. The $28.50 is the flat rate 2-day shipping anywhere in the country. If closer to where items are shipped from, there may be better rates.

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Yep, I read that yesterday! I took it as them saying the unwinding isn't an issue for shops since they use these tools every day. For us weekend warriors who might use the TW 2-4 times per year, it can be better to wind it down. Still, they did say it wasn't much of an issue. Also makes me think...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

I just ordered the Norbar! I called and spoke to a rep from Norbar USA in Ohio, and they do calibration on that unit for $52, which includes a certificate. They also do repairs. The easy to see window is a huge selling point as well, the more I've looked the various wrenches over. This unit is...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Honestly, the link Trav posted for the Pro 50 has that unit for so low that it's the same as the units you just posted. Leaning heavily toward Norbar Pro 50, but am still struggling to shake the idea of the split beam style being the better design since I read that over and over before the...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

I really dig the mushroom head and its functionality, though I'm unsure I'd ever need a 1/2" at 10-37.5 ft-lb. I found a demo of the Pro 50 last night that showed how you can insert the mushroom head in the other direction so that the TW can be used for left-hand threes. I'd never need that, but...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Thank you SubLGT! I read through a bunch of the pages on their website, but didn't see that one. Seems like a great company to do business with.

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Crazy you posted this haha! I just read that, and many other articles on their website. They are such an informative bunch. Really starting to dig them. Also, the mushroom head design, chemical resistance of the handle, included calibration certificate, and reported quality make Norbar a...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Is this a micrometer style? I thought the consensus was that these half their calibration for a much shorter duration and split beams were preferable? I feel like I've been sold on the split beam idea for so long that I can't fathom paying so much for a micrometer TW. Can you help me understand...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

    The 10-50 ft-lb is perfect, as I'll be working between 10 ft-lb and 30 ft-lb.

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

@Trav Any reason you can think of why one might lean CDI over PI? I recognize that when it comes to the 1/4" micrometers, CDI seems to come up, while with split beams, it's PI and CDI.

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Yeah I thought about it and even if the in-lb unit does go down to 100 inches, the lowest setting within 20% of full scale would still be 120 inches, so no different than the 10-50 ft-lb unit.

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

One more question regarding the PI split beam TW. I see there is a version that is in in-lb, with PI listing it as having a range from 100-600 in-lb, and various sellers listing it as 120-600 in-lb. Of course, the 120-600 range would be the same as the 10-50 ft-lb version. But a version with...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

I really appreciate this Trav. I went ahead and ordered the PI last night, after coming to the conclusion that there's no way all of you knowledgable folks own PI's and they are out of spec haha. $143 for such a quality tool is a steal. And no need to get a 1/4" unit and an a 1/4-3/8 adapter...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

After watching a few more videos and reading up, it seems like a lot of tests are questionable, and way more folks report PI as being extremely accurate out of the box and holding that accuracy for some time. I also have no way of knowing if testers are using old PI units that have been in use...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

So I finally found some old footage of a Snap-On 3/8 unit that looks exactly like the PI unit, which of course points to the fact that PI at one time made the wrench for Snap-On. This isn't anything you all don't know, but since CDI now makes the Snap-On unit and it has a more modern design...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

You referring to the PI or CDI? I just watched a video that showed the PI's accuracy being off by 5%, but the guy's calibration tool was unstable (moved in the vise when he initiated his first torque and he never fixed the issue as he continued testing). In addition, he was quick-torquing and...

CDI vs PI 3/8" Split Beam Decision

Great input and suggestion. I'd already have gone with a cheaper one from Tekton or Icon if they had one in the 10-50 ft-lb range. Most cheaper companies have the 20-100 ft-lb as their lowest ranged, and I specifically need that low range. If I wasn't locked in on a split beam I could always get...
