    GM dexosR/dexosD specifications

dexosR = dexos1 Gen3 + stricter GM Oxidation + stricter GM LSPI + stricter GM Turbo + ACEA M111 Fuel economy test (first I've seen for a XW-40!) + ACEA OM646LA Diesel Engine wear test dexosD = ACEA-23 diesel tests + API tests (valvetrain wear + Low temperature sludge + Bearing wear)...

Engine Oil degradation study : Tribological Assessment paper

There's another paper where they analyzed the phosphate composition over the oil lifetime. Very nice: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/333124522_Engine_Oils_in_the_Field_A_Comprehensive_Chemical_Assessment_of_Engine_Oil_Degradation_in_a_Passenger_Car

Engine Oil degradation study : Tribological Assessment paper

In this paper, they took samples of oil from the car as it was running through and tested this sample on both a ball & disc on a tribometer https://optimol-instruments.de/en/products/srv5/ For sure, the friction coefficient levels can be different than what's in a car and the wear results are...

Engine Oil degradation study : Tribological Assessment paper

Great paper I recently found that studied degradation of oil and how it affects wear: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/358517366_Engine_Oils_in_the_Field_A_Comprehensive_Tribological_Assessment_of_Engine_Oil_Degradation_in_a_Passenger_Car TLDR: Change oil by 8k-10k km (5k-6k miles)...

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

The problem is there aren't many XW-30 updated ACEA 'A3' formulations in US I've google for VOA/UOA on the oils below. Let me know if you know any. New 'SP' detergent formulation (Calcium PPM <1800 ): Mobil1 5W-30 FS Old detergent formulation: BMW TwinPower Turbo 5W-30 LL-01 Castrol EDGE Euro...

    Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50 vs Supercar 5w50?

Thanks! I don't know much about additives. Just started reading Leslie Rudnick's Lubricant Additive book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1032402164 The book talks about additives over multiple chapters based on intended use: Distinction the book makes between Anti-Wear/Extreme...

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

Ah, I misread your statement that it's updated for BMW LL01. Yeah, I see that the forum has extensively discussed LSPI topic and ZDDP's effects on it. I think that even with high ZDDP, you need new detergent formulation to clear API SP. Not sure if Castrol does this. Comparing just Engine test...

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

Right! Good to know that Castrol got the updated to SP too. I haven't seen updated VOA for 0w30 here. It's just that M1 FS 5w-30 carries the label 'confirms to API SP Engine test requirements'

    Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50 vs Supercar 5w50?

I thought Exxon only made Group1, Group2/2+, Group3+?(Visom) and synthetic base stocks based on their product offerings https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/basestocks/products I don't know if they get Group 3 from SK/Chevron or somewhere else and have the CAS# in question. Looking at MSDS sheets...

    Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50 vs Supercar 5w50?

Right! just saw it, The C40 GT Zinc/Phosphorous levels don't look that much different to a typical ESP X4 0W-40. No idea what changed then.

    Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50 vs Supercar 5w50?

By the VOA, the Supercar 5W-50 looks like midSAPS detergent/TBN level with Fricton reducers/ZDDP levels higher than a typical fullSAPS formulation. I guess, LT6 valvetrain being all mechanical with no hydraulic compensation requires the higher organic ZDDP formulation to preserve the finger...

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

I am willing to take the risk. For ElantraN, some dealerships are ok with running 5W-20/30.

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

I agree that 0w30 is the future for regulators and formulators (vs) 5w-30 Studying the MSDS pdfs, I see a lot of 0w30 have good base stock content (Grp3+/PAO/Esters) compared to 5w30 Among >3.5 HTHS ACEA options, I see a lot of C3 versions but it's a shame that A3/B4 Full SAPS versions are left...

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

Yeah. I've heard about the dealers. Will be really surprised if they are able to pick up the difference between 0w-30 vs 5w-30. Anyway hoping it never gets to that.

ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

That used to be the case for older versions of 2.0T engines. The newer ones have the viscosity stated explicitly in the service manual. The Euro versions of this engine are recommended to run the same 0W-30 with ACEA C2/C5 spec as @yowps3 stated Thanks to the forum, I chose to use M1 5W-30...

Thanks to everyone in this forum for helping me understand and gain knowledge on everything lubrication! Reading the forum posts, I understand that there's a lot more than just viscosity.
