Read it and weep, and enjoy the taste of that crow. "The Toyota 2TR-FE (2014 Tacoma) and 1AR-FE engines are not related. They belong to entirely different engine families with distinct designs, architectures, histories, and intended applications, despite both being 2.7-liter inline-4 (I4)...

Opinions on Toyota 1AR-FE 2.7L engine?

Oh dear, imagine living in this day and age of instant and limitless access to information and still being this arrogant and confidently wrong. Re-read what GR_CoB posted above. Also, read the below and enjoy the taste of that crow. But keep chuckling like some psych ward patient. "The Toyota...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Yeah I wondered about something like mineral spirits but I don't want to damage the friction plates. Not sure if something as harsh as brake cleaner would cause a problem

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

I was surprised too, also strange that the manual didn't mention anything regarding installation of it. I guess you just rotate it as many teeth as possible when reinstalling, the angle difference from one tooth to the next is actually pretty large so it wasn't even possible to install it with...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Interesting, so just rubbing alcohol? Is that the best thing to soak it in?

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Ok. So I worked on the bike tonight... I don't think that spot on the shaft is actually a dot, I think it's just a discoloration from corrosion or something. I can't see any indentation when looking at it close up. Whereas the brake pedal has a clear, deep stamped indentation. I took some more...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

You know what I think you're exactly right! Here's another pic and you can see the dot is not aligned with the gap. I scoured the manual and can't find anywhere it mentions where that dot should be aligned on that part (they call it the clutch release arm)..... But! They do mention that the...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Sorry for the late response, we had a bad cold snap for most of the last week. I did ride yesterday though and the clutch isn't getting any better. It's usable when warm still just have to really let it warm up. Anyway I did what you said and took videos, the first video is with the clutch...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Well when I rode it after I first changed the oil, I let it warm up completely before I rode. And I'm wondering if the changing seasons made a difference since I'm up north, the temperature outside during cold starts now is quite a bit cooler than when I was riding it before changing the oil...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Ib Checked that, it's definitely moving the lever down at the clutch cover properly

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

It's still killing it while cold, I rode again last night and was in a hurry so I just got the bike rolling before I put it in first so it wouldn't stall out lol. Worked like a charm.

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Well here's an update, after riding it two nights ago for a good hour I let it sit and tried it again last night and the clutch is still dragging pretty badly when it's cold. So it's working when it's warmed up but not when cold so looks like I'm going to have to take apart the clutch and do...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Yep I rode it around town tonight for about an hour and about 20 miles. Now we'll see if anything has changed after it's cooled down tomorrow. When I got home I put it on the center stand and the wheel would lightly spin and come to a stop in 1st with the clutch pulled. It was still clunking...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

That makes a lot of sense. And I wouldn't put it past the previous owner to have literally put some lightweight oil in there to make sure it would shift long enough to sell it since he lied about other things. Regardless, if I understand you right are you saying that the clutch plates probably...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

Ok! So I let the Rotella drain out for about 12 hours lol, and replaced it with the valvoline 10w-40 that ZeeOSix suggested. It definitely helped! The clutch is still dragging but not as much and once it's warmed up it will actually shift into first without stalling, which it wouldn't do at all...

Rotella t4 causing clutch to drag?

You know what? That's exactly what I'm going to do. I just went to Walmart and got four quarts of this and will be replacing the Rotella with it tonight and letting it run a bit. I'll report back with what happens
