The power of time with money…

Several congrats to your daughter. Many people struggle looking into the future. I started investing at a young age and use to preach to friends at work to put money into their 401k. You wouldn’t believe the number of times I heard, I can’t at this time because Johnny needs braces, tires for the...

Advice for removing an anode needed

From my experience, you might too late if you have sulfur smell. My sister smelled sulfur so I replaced the anode and sanitized her tank. She said it worked for a month or so then returned so they replaced it and that corrected it. I check/replace anodes at my house and rentals every 6 yrs...

Question about 80% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) furnace running lower output

I recommend having a company run a heating/cooling load for your house. Someone mentioned Manual J and I have heard of this format, however there many load programs out there. Just don’t allow someone to base the loads entirely on BTU per sq. ft. Inaccuracies like this is a major reason why I...

Question about 80% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) furnace running lower output

40+ yr HVAC veteran, service tech then engineer. Humidity level drops (air dries out) anytime air temperature rises, this is not affected by capacity of the furnace. Adding moisture to the air and reducing air infiltration are the only ways to reduce it from being so dry. In the winter, I do not...

    Attic insulation

I'd estimate somewhere around $100-125 savings per year. Building code requires R-49, local jurisdictions may require more. Insulation has diminishing returns so I don't recommend adding more then R-49. In order, the largest energy losses in a house are: anything uninsulated, air infiltration...

    Kohler Courage surging issues

What is the color of the spark plug? If it is white, that is caused from a lean fuel mixture. Lean is caused either from air leaks or most likey gummed up jets. You can also test to see if it runs better with the choke on. This is also an indication the mixture is too lean. Remove the carb...

Would you vacation in Europe this year?

I am not concerned traveling overseas. Going to UK, France, and Italy this April. Wife and I went to France a few years ago and Americans are generally accepted there, the only concern was pickpockets.

    Ball valve flow direction arrow

Direction of flow does not matter through ball valves. The only thing important in your case is to locate the vent on the side of the valve you intend to drain/relieve pressure.

3rd Heater Core Plugged In 6 Months...

I doubt the heater core is plugged, why would the core only get plugged? A blown head gasket is more likely the issue, it allows air to enter the coolant system to the point the heater core air locks and no longer heats. The heater in my wifes truck stopped working so I researched forums and...

    Update to my listening room.

Just out of high school, I spent more money on stereo gear then I made. I had a Hafler DH 220 amp, DH 110 preamp, and Yamaha tuner for roughly 5 years before they were stolen. That was a long time ago..............it was good equipment, I still miss it.

    Father/Son Project: 2006 Toyota Tacoma w/1GR-FE...Known Issues?

I still drive a 2004 Tacoma with 128k I've had since new. I don't have much input because it's been a great truck. I keep up on maintenance but the only issues I've ever had are an O2 sensor and a few vacuum hoses that crack at the ends and cause rough idle.

Do you get or will you get a pension?

No pension myself but my wife has one. I retired last year at 61 and both of us have 401K's. However, we have not drawn from the accounts yet because we are fortunate enough to own several rental homes.

25yr old battery finally needs replacement

I've never heard of a car battery lasting so long. It's a NAPA Select Orbital AGM battery in an older car taking up space in the garage that's driven only a few times during the summer. Therefore, it's on a tender majority of the time. I have flooded batterys in our other vehicles but I'm...

    2 stroke racing oil

What oil are you using currently? I've been using Castrol RS TTS for over 10 years but it was discontinued over a year ago and I opened the last container this weekend. I really like the oil but Castrol said they do not have a replacement
