2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

I've seen videos where people complain about Hondas sounding like a diesel and making all kinds of noise. I never felt that way about mine. Never really heard any excessive noise except for the engine sounded pretty bad after the valve issue past 920k. Even that noise seemed to get better...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

@ecotourist I didn't forget about this thread. I was going to swap in a JDM engine. Found an issue with it and changed course to a new Honda OEM J30A4 from Power Rev Racing. I just checked all of the valves on my original engine that has not had a valve adjustment. Valve clearance listed with...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

When I had my last route, it was 50+ hrs per week. Each route was around 7 hrs and I did that six times per week. Also commented 1.5 hrs round trip to my other job 5-6 days per week. I was driving around 13k miles per month. So around what the average American driver does per year, I was doing...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

@ecotourist Yeah,.my plan is to swap the engine to get my power and mpgs back and keep going. I'm not going to try for any really high mileage years like the 147k, but I will probably keep doing some courier work. Honda hasn't said much about the car. The news station that interviewed me tagged...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

@ecotourist I've used Redline for this MTL as well as their fluids for regular automatic transmissions and CVTs. I've also used their gear oil in differentials. Basically if they have a cross reference for the application, I've used their fluid. They're kinda like Amsoil in that you can't buy it...

I love all of the questions from everyone! @Astro14 Thanks for the kind words and pushing back on some of those comments. My wife found this thread today and said I should probably get in here to answer some questions and dispel bad assumptions. I'm so very proud of this car and the overall...

Now I'll only use the Aisin TKH002 kit. The shop I use installs Gates kits. They buy from a supplier and it is supposed to be better quality than what you get at parts stores. All of the Gates kits were fine except I had one where the hydraulic tensioner started failing around 80k. On a cold...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

Thanks. Yours is the really rare one. The only time the valve covers were off was for the new vlv cover gaskets at 606k. That's the only time they would've been checked. If I remember after we pull the engine and before we open it up, I'll try to check them. I still don't think my engine sounds...

2003 Honda Accord Running for Nearly a Million Miles

Hi. This is our car in the article. I've seen this site before, but this is my first post on here. I wanted to share some more info about the car and answer questions about it. The car did hit a million miles on March 11, 2023. There are several articles about it online: The Drive, Jalopnik...
