The point of the video is keeping your fuel injection system clean. When the spray pattern is compromised fuel is sprayed directly on to the cylinder walls this promotes more wear. In other words, clean you fuel system often. There are many good products out there. B12 Chemtool is a favorite...
2GR- FKS11,900k miles. Early morning fluid exchange before heading to the N Ga mountains. 4800 miles. I do 5k OCI / 10k filter. Oil was not particularly dirty but did smell of dilution. M1 0w-40
Starting in 2021, the 5.0 received internal upgrades, including a billet oil pump, new ring packs, and the belt driven oil pump is kevlar lined. 5w-40 seems very popular. 5w-30 is minimum viscosity starting in 2021 as well.
Definitely change the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage with the short tripping. Taking the vehicle out for 30 min once a week would be highly beneficial. Keep us updated if you find it is a head gasket. If it’s not consuming coolant I doubt you have a leak.
I think this is a good approach. Ideally the vehicle should be driven at least once a week for 30 min to help burn off containments. I’ve seen other cases like this. Might be worth flushing at the next change to help with any slugging. I personally prefer Liqui Moly’s products. Amazon has them...
It’s great oil. I run M1 Euro 0w-40 winter and 5w-40 summer. I also run Liqui Moly CeraTec. This has nothing to do with consumption, I just love how smooth my vehicle is with it. Fantastic cold start protection as well.
Zero consumption during my Tacoma break-in, current at 11487 miles. And I’m tuned and run her kind of hard at times. But I switched to 0w-40 almost immediately from the factory 0w-20 fill. I change every 5k.
It’s in the US owners manual because of CAFE. It’s not necessarily in the best interest of the owner. Here is the oil chart from outside the US. It’s same exact thing for my Tacoma. Your 4Runner is really rated up to 15w-40. 0w-20 is the thinnest oil allowed. Something to consider...
The Tacoma is approved to run anything from 0w-20 up to 15w-40. Just because your US owner’s manual does not specifically state this does not mean it’s not in the service or technical manual. Thank CAFE for this. I switched to M1 5w-40 at 250 miles. Significant difference. Much less dilution...
Absolutely, in my previous tuned Kia Stinger, which was driven kind of hard, but not particularly abused I would see a lot of fuel dilution as well. I was using WMI, which did not help too much either, lol. I also targeted 3500 - 4k OCI’s / 5w-40.
I am with you 100%, one reason why I don’t buy used anymore. I’m very anal about my break-in procedure, oil used, and intervals. Most people that are like this don’t tend to trade often. On that WRX, you should have seen how black and nasty the oil would get at 4k miles or so. It would smell...
