    0W-16 vs 0W-20 for a 2024 RAV4 XSE AWD Hybrid

2024 RAV4 XSE AWD Hybrid. Owners manual specifies 0W-16, it also says 0W-20 can be used, but 0W-16 should be used at next oil change. Will any damage occur from using 0W-20 long term?

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

Who am I to disagree? Thanks to you and all.

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

I do check oil level regularly, and change it and the filter yearly with about 35 hours/year. If I sounded as though I was challenging the experts here, my most humbled apologies are offered.

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

I was using Mobil 1 20W50 at first, but at last oil change used Valvoline 20W50 for the reason of ambient temps here. Here it is in late March and the expected high will be 75. In a few months, I can count on temps being in the mid 90's.

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

Thanks CleanSump---I do have the Kawasaki OM that came with the ZTR mower, and use 20W50 synthetic for the ambient temps here in south Louisiana.

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

The Kawasaki owners manual I have OK's the use of 20W50 for the ambient temperature where I am, stating it may help reduce oil consumption. It also makes no mention about not using synthetic oil. The statement I posted about not using synthetic oil because of sludge buildup and other problems...

Using synthetic oil in Kawasaki FR651V....

I have posted here before with concerns about using Valvoline Synthetic 20W50 racing oil (black bottle) in my Kawasaki engine. Pretty much everyone who replied said there is no need to worry. However, I was just on another website (engineoiilcapacity.com/kawasaki-fr651v-engine-oil-type/) which...

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

EvoMan--thanks for posting the video. I feel like I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express !

    Miter saw question

Agreed--I would think that condition is as noticeable as would be if it were to wobble.

    Miter saw question

If your arbor/cup washers hold the blade securely without wobbling, I would go with that. To cut the aluminum, you will need a blade made to cut non-ferrous metal with many teeth---they are slightly thicker (wider) for added strength. If you cant get one at the big box stores. then for sure get...

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

While I am by no means a Mr. Goodwrench, your argument about why to not worry about using the VR1 is most compelling and convincing. So I'll take your word and that of those who agree. Thanks again to all for the reassurance.

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

Valvoline did stop with the API rating "donut" as per the black bottles I currently have. The apprehension I have is about having to replace an engine because of incorrect oil used. But with several people here saying the oil is ok to use, then maybe it's a matter of "two+ heads are better than...

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

OK---final word on this from the Valvoline rep. He says to see if the engines require an API rating for the oil used. If they do, such as SL. SJ, etc., then he advises to NOT USE the VR1 since it does not have an API rating, which may cause damage. So I guess I will be draining both engines...

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

To me, overkill means not necessary but also better than standard or average. So I will continue with the VR1 since the few $'s extra cost is not an issue. Thanks to all for your responses.

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

The Kawasaki engine has 142 hours on it, while the Honda has maybe 50 hours run time. During the off season, I run both at least twice monthly for several minutes. I change the oil and filter (Kawasaki) on both at the start of cutting season regardless of run time.

OK, great. Thanks again for responding.

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

To clarify, what I have in my mower engines is the VR1 synthetic racing oil---not the oil labeled "Not Street Legal." I think I will call Valvoline again to get reassurance.

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

I do know that Valvoline has a racing oil clearly labeled "NOT FOR STREET USE." The Valvoline rep it was fine to use in small engines, but again, I did read some posts from people on different sites that say what I mentioned above.

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing oil (black bottle)

I read some info on this oil and liked that it has a high zinc content for added anti-wear protection. So i called Valvoline and spoke to a rep there to ask if this oil is safe to use in my two small lawnmower engines (Honda 160cc and Kawasaki twin cylinder FR651V.) As of today, the Honda has...
