I would not be to hard on the dealer. I've seen Royal Purple turn its natural color within the first few miles. But, if you really think the dealer is that shady, never go back.

Honeywell makes the Honda filters and they are an excellent filter. So is WIX.

I'm a lucky man. Station two blocks from my house has all three grades, ethanol free, and it is the same price as every other station in town. The Honda and all lawn equipment run great.

I personally would not use the 5W-30 in your application. I would use one of their outdoor oils. G-Oil Outdoor

Since the OP said he replaced the PCV and it was crusty, leads me to believe it was not venting properly, and if the crankcase cannot vent, any oil will varnish up, including synthetics.

Since both set a lot, go to your local Stihl dealer and see if they have any of the quart cans of the Motomix. It is an excellent product and has a two year shelf life. Unheard of with regular gasoline.

I would use either AeroShell 15W-50 or the Phillips X/C 20W-50 oil in your Continental. Not that it makes any difference, but it cam from Cessna with the Phillips in it.
