11 Hyundai Elantra 1.8L engine power steering fluid capacity?

I want to completely replace all the PSF in the system with Idemitsu PSF (which I've verified is compatible). Idemitsu PSF comes in 12 oz bottles. How much PSF do I need to buy?

    03 Honda CR-V - Two PSF questions

I want to replace all PSF fluid in the system with OEM Honda PSF. I don't have an owners manual for it. A Google search is giving me conflicting info. Some sources says 1 quart, others say 2 quarts. I'm guessing I need 1.5 quarts. It's sold in 12 oz bottles, but I can convert qts to oz. Does...

    Asian Blue Coolant

I recently learned that Peak & Prestone Asian Blue coolant are rated for 15 years. The other brands I've seen are rated for 5 years. I also learned that Prestone is $1 to $2 less in my local area. That surprised me because for multi-vehicle universal coolants Peak is lower cost than Prestone in...

Is a VOA a necessity before doing UOA?

Can I know oil condition from a UOA if I didn't do a UOA earlier? i.e. - Is a VOA a neccesity before beginning to do UOA?

    Does brand of ATF matter?

In regard to my 1997 Buick Park Ave and my neighbor's 2011 Hyundai Elantra... I don't know much about ATF and I'd like to know more. Does brand of ATF matter? Is all ATF synthetic these days? Are high mileage or extended protection ATF better or different than regular ATF? If so, how?

Stinky Used Oil - 2011 Hyundai Oil Change

My cousin recently changed the motor oil in my neighbor's 2011 Hyundai Elantra Limited, which (I think?) has a 1.8L engine. The oil was black, thin, and very stinky. I've never smelled used oil that stinky before in my life. I can't say for sure that it was fuel contamination because I didn't...

    Shell Rotella Gas Truck oil

Shell Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 and other grades is a great oil for gas trucks and heavy duty use in cars, IMO. I hope that Shell hasn't discontinued it, but they might have. Any thoughts about this? It's still available from Walmart online.

What is considered a respectable HTHS?

What is a respectable HTHS for 5w20 & 5w30 oils? Do thicker grade oils have better HTHS or just a higher starting viscosity? My understanding of HTHS is it tells us how much viscosity loss will occur due to shear. Is that correct?

Can I use Idemitsu PSF in my 97 Buick Park Ave?

I'm going to flush and replace PSF in a 97 Buick Park Ave, 2011 Hyundai Elantra, & 2003 Honda CR-V. I compared datasheets of every brand of synthetic PSF that I could find looking for the best that I can afford. I posted specs for some brands below. There wasn't room to post them all. Note...

    High Mileage Oils Oxidation Number

I watched a Lake Speed video about High Mileage oils. He said HM oils show a higher starting oxidation number in VOAs, which he said is how we know they have extra seal conditioner in them. Does it mean HM oils oxidize faster? Does it mean HM oils cannot last as many miles or as much time?

What PS Fluid do you use?

Which is your favorite? Why is it your favorite? Personally I'm using Lucas PSF in my 97 Buick Park Ave because a Power Steering Sports specialist/tech/mechanic recommended it to me years ago. He actually recommended Swepco PSF, but no stores in town sell Swepco in my town. His 2nd...

High Mileage Oil vs Extended Fill Oil

I've noticed that you can buy a high mileage oil, or an extended fill oil, but there is no oil that is both HM & EF. At least none that I'm aware of Why is that? Chemistry? Marketing?

    Maxlife ATF Compatibility

I'm thinking of changing my neighbor's 2003 Honda CR-V transmission fluid to Valvoline Maxlife ATF. Google says 2003 Honda CR-V uses ATF-Z1 fluid. Maxlife ATF compatibility list says it's compitable with Honda ATF-Z1 (except in CVTs). What does CVT mean? Does CVT concern apply to a 2003 CR-V...

    Power Steering Fluid Change Questions

How often should I change the power steering fluid in my 97 Buick Park Ave? Does brand of PS fluid matter? My PS system has no leaks, but the car is 28 years old. So knock on wood. I was told Swepco PS fluid is best for the 96 & 99 Jeep Cherokees that I owned, but I don't know if that advice...

How to test coolant 2011 Hyundai Elantra?

One of my neighbors ladies has a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. My cousin is going to change its oil and filter next Friday using oil and filter that I bought. That's the same day he'll replace coolant in my other neighbor lady's 03 Honda CR-V. While we're at it, we'd like to check the coolant in the...

    Oilpan Drainplug Removal Tool

I just purchased an oil drainplug removal tool to keep fingers cleaner and avoid potential burns. Obviously wearing rubber gloves is a good idea. In addition, I purchased this tool. Some of you may already own this tool or at least be aware it's available. I recently learned (from a BITOG...

    Buick Park Ave drain plugs

The OEM drain plug (see photo) is a brilliant design (IMO) with a rubber, silicon, or plastic seal built in to it. I think the OEM plug was designed for many reuses. However, mine is now 28 years old with 105K miles. So it should probably be replaced. I bought a Goldplug (see photo) with a...
