VW Karmann Ghia launched on this day 14th July 1955, 70 years ago

At the beginning of the 1950s Wilhelm Karmann spoke with the then VW boss Heinrich Nordhoff about a sporty Coupé based on the Beetle. At the Kasino-Hotel in Georgsmarienhütte, a small town near Osnabrück in Germany, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was officially presented to journalists and...

    Drove a Juniper today...

A new Tesla store just opened up a few blocks from our house; wifey and I stopped in late in the afternoon today. Young man threw us the keys, key card actually, to a Model Y Long Range RWD . It had the alloy wheels and new Diamond Black paint color. I specifically wanted the single motor car...

    1965 442 value guidance

At the Petaluma Salute to American Graffiti car show, a guy had a 65 442 that was resto modded. I told him we have one the the most original 65 442s left. He just offered me $15K, sight unseen. What is a car like this worth? 97K original miles, bought by wifey's father. I have the Fremont...

2011 Camry Drain Plug too tight! Dang you Toyota.

So I'm doing the last service to the Camry in prep to give it to the needy family...Simple trans spill-and-fill. The 24mm fill plug was pretty tight, but no biggie. The 6mm drain plug was another story. The undercarriage is spotless, but I cleaned out the hex plug for good measure. Using a 6mm...

Plastic grille crack fix, weld, glue or ???

We got our beloved '06 TSX back today. The chrome grille trim is cracked. I can buy the piece from Amazon for about $50; not sure of fitment. I can probably get on from Acura, not sure of price. I've heard of plastic welding but know nothing about it. I believe JB Weld has a plastic version...

2015 Mazda 3 Aftermarket Apple Car Play Unit Advice

Any experience and recommendation for Apple Car Play / Android Auto for the factory system with nav screen? Crutchfield seems to have the 6" and 9" that are for most cars. I've seen some that are wider. I don't want any junk. Thanks in advance! Factory unit:

    HID Lifespan?

After reading the Oshram HID thread, I got to wondering... Our 2013 GS350 is pushing 12 years old and has 116K on the clock. Almost always garaged, if that helps. Should I consider replacing the bulbs? I appreciate your thoughts. FYI I have a Cerakote Lens polish kit... So don't judge me!

Angle Valve Pipe thread sealant - Help!

I replaced the flush valve in a newer toilet and noticed how old the multi-turn angle valve was. It was hard to break torque. Our house is old, 1962. We had the bathroom remodeledyears ago, the guy should have, IMO, refreshed the plumbing. So I took it apart; it was a 4" brass nipple and pipe...

Memorial Day Lecture "Go For Broke", the 442 Combat Regiment and 100th Battalion

Wifey and I attended a lecture at the Moffett Field Museum today; the lecture focused on the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Infantry Regiment, also known as the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. While I thought I had a decent understanding of the highly decorated Japanese American 442 Infantry, I...

Cooked wall switch... Scary. Please come in...

My niece called me this morning with "a little question"; the hall light switch would not turn off the hall ceiling light. I called her daughter, who was home and I asked if it was warm or smelled. Not warm, but smelled "a little weird". I told her to flip breaker switches until the light went...

My old Ghetto Ride, a '68 L36 Roadster

I've had this car for a long time; it was pretty rough when I got it. It's a numbers car, a Plane Jane 1968 Corvette 427, late build. Years ago I asked my BIL to come and get it; paint and chrome were done, and I had a full interior kit and rag top in boxes. Seats were already rebuilt with new...

Tub faucet identification help; please come in.

I have a studio condo a friend lives in; it is in "lived in" condition. The 3 handle tub faucet is leaking. Swapping valve and seat is easy enough, but I am not sure how to identify what I am working on. Any advice? I guess take it apart and go to home store? I don't even know where the water...

BMW Wheels - SF South Bay - Free?

I dropped 2 bags of clothes to a small Goodwill near our house... I noticed 4 fat tires and wheels that someone dropped off; or should I say dumped there. 225/40/ZR18. 3 Series maybe? I can take them. They are not perfect but must be worth a lot? Conti tires. Lemme know if you are interested.
