SwRI testing of oils and rings

I learned a few things on this video. One being that friction and wear are two separate things. Apologize if this has already been posted as I do not follow this site. Looking forward to future videos from this source.

    Cavitation wear in journal bearings

There was a thread that was closed that brought up cavitation wear on bearings. Thought it was an interesting subject and found this. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0301679X16302109

Can you see any bearing wear?

I have this UOA. Can you see bearing wear anywhere on this report? On the 2019 Miata what are main and connecting rod bearings made of? https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/tgmo-0w-20-sp-2019-miata-4500-miles.354004/#post-6097613

    Mazda factory fill question

On the factory installed Mazda Skyactiv they use 0w-20 high moly in naturally aspirated cars but in the turbo version they use 5w-30. The moly is significantly reduced in the 5w-30. For my 2019 Miata it is recommended in Mexico to use 5w-30. What is your thoughts on this...

    Technical question on Ravenol DXG

Been discussing this oil on a Miata site. The person pointed out the oil is low SAPS. (per Ravenol) There is not a ASTM rating in the info. https://www.ravenol.de/en/product/motorenoel/pkw-motorenoel/ravenol-dxg-sae-5w-30 The sulphated ash amount listed in the above is % weight 0,92 using DIN...

    40 c or 100 c

I have seen the explanation here that oils are rated at the 100 c or operating temperature of the engine. This video at 5:30 says the oil is rated at the 40 c temperature. Not to argue with minds with more knowledge than mine on oil but this makes more sense. The 40 c would need a matching...

    Do you need any more?

Just a personal view… SAPS are additives installed by the oil blender. Sulfated ash is used for valve seat and piston rings wear. Chasing more (or less) than what the OM requires regarding the oil qualified per the stated OCI is not doing anything good for the engine. The engine is unique to the...

    0w-20 or 5w-20

Which would you choose? Guess the question is how important is it to reduce the VII as far as wear or mileage? When my warranty expires considering going from 0w20 to 5w20. Your view?

Question on 0w-20 SP rated oils

Sounds like a broken record here but looking at Mobil 1 annual protection I notice a similarity from going from SN to SP rated oil. Same as PUP, (but not PP) the 0w-20 had a hard time getting the SP rating for 0w-20 but had no problem getting the 5w-20 oil to get the SP rating.
