    Do turbos damage oil?

I've got a Beetle with a turbo. Is that thing doing nasty destruction to my oil? Maybe I should cut intervals in half (to 5000).

    Delvac 1 in 5w-20 engine?

The engine says 5w-20 but it's also very old (200,000 miles). Think it would be alright to use Delvac 1? I've had extremely good results with it (two cars went almost 400,000 miles).

What AMSoil recommended for this model engine?

    It's a two-stroke glowplug engine that uses a 1 part oil, 4 part glowfuel mixture (i.e. 20% oil; 80% fuel). No piston ring (it's aluminum inside a nickle-plated sleeve). http://www.osengines.com/engines/la.html

    dexos-qualified Pennzoil synthetic?

Does it exist? I didn't see any at the walmart. Maybe I'll go with the Quaker State synthetic instead (it has the green dexos symbol on it).

Synthetic 5W-20 has no VMs? Amsoil cheaper?

Is is true that 5w-20 synthoil has no viscoity modifiers in it? Perhaps that explains why Amsoil's Signature 5W-20 is cheaper than 0W-20? Fewer additives?

20,000 miles on Mobil Delvac 1

I decided to try an experiment and run my car (1987 Plymouth Caravelle) for 20,000 miles on the same oil. Of course I used the best oil I could find: Mobil Delvac 1 (synthetic/5W-40/diesel oil). I then got an oil analysis to see what kind of results I got, and I think it looks good: 4 quarts +...

Why'd my brother's truck die at 100,000 miles?

My brother's gasoline-powered truck blewup at 100,000 miles. He was towing a camper and driving from PA to North Dakota, doing about 65 he said, when the engine made a loud bang and died. He then spent $5000 buying a new engine. I keep asking him if he did anything "wrong" and he says not...

Why is it bad to mix Synthetics?

All the synthetic brands say it's okay to top-off with conventional/natural oil. For example using Mobil 1 as your fill and a few thousand miles later topping-off with Pennzoil conventional. No prob. But they do not recommend topping-off with synthetics. For example, using Mobil 1 and later...

Can I leave my car sit for a long time?

If I let my car sit for 3 or 4 months, is the oil going to turn to sludge? Will the seals rot? My parents keep saying, "You'll kill your car," but I think that's ridiculous. It's in a garage. It's protected from the elements. Your thoughts?
