I'm currently using Castrol Syntec in my truck since new until I heard some bad things about them. one of them that its not a real synthetic. Is it just as good as other synthetic?

I been hearing too many rumors that you can use 0w20 5w20 0w40 5w40 and i'm not sure which one to use. I just want to use the proper oil weight and is recommended by the manufacture spec. According to my owners mannual they didn't tell me the oil weights. and idea? I assume it's 5w40 since thats...

I have about 85,000 miles on my pickup and I do a lot of towing. Was wondering which oil is best to use. I'm currently using Castrol syntec 5w30.
