    Jeep Death Wobble observed

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee blessed me with the famous err infamous "death wobble" after I ran over the base of a traffic cone on the expressway. It can be and was quite terrifying. That Jeep was one of the worst vehicles that I have owned - A complete money pit.

    Are you brand neutral?

I lean towards the Japanese brands Honda, Toyota but have owned and driven domestics as well. I will never own another Hyundai/Kia. I know plenty of people have had good experiences with H/K, but in my almost 50 years of owning and driving cars the Kia we had was the only car that suffered...

Absent the discoloration I'd say it looks pretty darn clean considering 30k km (18k miles) OCIs.

What criteria do you use when selecting a motor oil?

2006 Civic EX sedan: beater I bought from my son with an unknown maintenance history. I'm on my 4th OCI of 5w-30 Valvoline Restore and Protect and will continue to run Valvoline Restore and Protect for the balance of my time with the car. My reasoning is probably obvious. 2023 Civic Type R: I...

    No Civic SI for 2027

I owned a 2020 2.0T Accord prior to buying my Type R. It was a relatively fun car for a FWD family sedan. It was definitely a sleeper and there were plenty of YouTube creators back in the day drag racing them for content.

200K Transition Mobil 1 To Amsoil

In May 30th 2026 when he posted Amsoil stash this pick on that other thread the Corolla was listed as having 160,00 miles. In late June he has 200,000 miles on the Corolla. That is a lot of driving... I would be doing extended OCIs for sure.

    Seeking 2026 dexos1 Gen 3 5W-30 oil rec for a new CT4-V Blackwing (LF4)

I'm envious of your new ride. Congrats ... CT4-V Blackwing are great cars and should be a ton of fun especially tearing up some Colorado twisty mountain passes.

My experience with vehicles over the last 40 years

I've owned about 20 cars in my 48 years of driving. Probably the best car bought from new was a 2006 Honda Accord EXL 4-popper. I got 360,000 hard miles out of that car and that was back when I wasn't as neurotic about maintenance as I am today. The worst car bought from new was a 2016 Kia...

    Youtube Oil Experts

While we're ranting on YouTube another thing helping with demise of the platform are the YouTube Shorts. I get that they had to compete with the TikTok's of the world, but the majority of the content is just plain Brain rot. Hate to generalize, but the younger generation seem to have the...

What are you working on today?

I don't have time so I am having a trusted local independent repair shop install my Acuity short throw shifter and cable bushings on my 23 Civic Type R. They will also drain & fill my manual transmission fluid while they're in there. (Amsoil Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid)

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

My 23 Civic Type R is currently at a local shop having an Acuity 4-way adjustable shifter installed along with upgraded shift cable bushings. Since they will have to remove the airbox to get to the bushings I'm having them do a drain and fill on the manual transmission fluid although its only...

    Which tire protectant?

I don't use many Chemical Guy products but Valvoline Restore and Protect is one that I have used. It's not bad and a little goes a long way. Use as little as you can to get the desired result. x

Brake pad recommendation // FL5 Civic Type R

I like the OEM pads fine but they dust up pretty bad. I'm looking for a pad that won't dust quite as bad without sacrificing performance. I get it .. you're going to have to deal with brake dust on a performance brakes application. To this point the car has been driven rather tamely. I'm at...
