    Should i get a E90 N54 car?

There are a lot of youtube videos on about anything you need to do on the E9x and E8x cars. Also the forums are very good. You probably know this - the E82 and E90 are the same cars. Suspension and engine parts are pretty much interchangeable. Brakes not always. So look at 1 Series forums...

    Should i get a E90 N54 car?

Oil pan gaskets can and will develop leaks. Usually slow leaks and can be tolerated for awhile. The N54 is more prone to intake valve carbon buildup than the successor N55. Walnut blasting is needed. Sounds like you're handy enough to consider doing it yourself. If not find a local indie...

Toyota Sienna Hybrid A25A Engine - Oil and Coolant Temps

My son recently bought a 2024 Sienna. It gets a lot of short trips. I don't even know what OCI Toyota recommends, but what are opinions on what it should be? And what oil? Edit: just noticed i hijacked the thread. Sorry but brief responses would be appreciated.

    BMW Longlife Specs... (LL01, LL04, LL19FE; N52 and B48)

I was only thinking about sulfur. But I don't like the ethanol addition and now it's up to 15% in some cases.

BMW 230i - out with the old and in with the new

What are you leaning towards for engine oil? I started this lengthy thread after buying a 2021 230i https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/bmw-230i-b46-oil.380082/

Looking at used low mileage Sienna's

Thanks for the input. He already committed to a 2024 Sienna.

Looking at used low mileage Sienna's

My son is looking at minivans and has narrowed it down to Sienna (and maybe a Honday Odyssey). Preferable mileage is 40,000 max. Any guidance on what years are better, what to look out for? I'm seeing some CPO's available so is it worth it to try to find a CPO? Somewhere we heard there...

What’s going on with CHEVRON and VALERO?

Interesting tidbit on the light-sweet and heavy-sour crude history - US crude oil exports were prohibited from the mid 1970's after the 1973-74 embargo. The ban was lifted in 2015. One of the reasons for removing the ban was refineries in the US just couldn't handle all the crudes coming from...

What’s going on with CHEVRON and VALERO?

If a refiner installs units (like delayed coking = big capex) to handle a heavy sour, it's usually sub-optimal to run something else. There is some switching from hvy sour that can be done but it's a waste and can force crude runs to be reduced. Taking a plant that was designed for low sulfur...

What’s going on with CHEVRON and VALERO?

I think @53' Stude is talking about crude oil. If so, no surprise. A lot of US refiners use heavy sour crude from Venezuela. Often using a lighter crude will 'choke' the refinery and actually force crude runs to be cutback.

    What LL01 to try next?

I'm a bit surprised how much of the mogas supply is above 10ppm, There used to be an absolute max of 30ppm, credits not withstanding? Anyone know if this is the case? I'm using an LL04 in my B46, and typically changing oil every 12-15 mos and well under 5,000 miles. I assume this is 'safe'.

    BMW 230i (B46) oil

Resurrecting this thread rather than hijacking another one - it seems that of Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 and ESP 5W30, the 0W30 is considered 'better'. Here's is one recent thread on the subject: Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 or Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 | 3.5 EcoBoost in the PCMO subforum. I went with the 5W30 on my...

    2020 Bmw G20 B48 Water Pump Replacement

There is a way to get the car to bleed itself for both the high temp (engine coolant) and low temp (intercooler) systems. I can't find the video, but there is something out there on the procedure. I think it's for a B58, but likely the same procedure. Search B58 or B48 coolant bleed diy.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 vs. Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 Pricing

I'm reluctant to post this because it's likely an over active imagination, but, the ESP 5W30 seems to make my 230i (B46) run smoother. Actually took advantage at the now good price on Walmart to purchase next oil change.

NOCO GENIUS 10 burning out batteries?

Not sure about either. The CTEK showed the red error light so I quit trying it. For the Battery Tender, I was out of town for an extended period. No lights were on when I came back the the battery was very dead. We did have a power outage while I was away but if that killed the charger it...

NOCO GENIUS 10 burning out batteries?

I've had a CTEK 4.3 fail and a Battery Tender Plus (Deltran) fail. With the CTEK I was around and caught the failure so it didn't hurt the battery. The Battery Tender failure I was away for a long time and it cost me a battery. I'm sure it was the tender because I put it on the new battery...

    BMW Longlife Specs... (LL01, LL04, LL19FE; N52 and B48)

I would say BMW is behind on the reality of sulfur levels in US gasoline. But isn't LL17 FE same saps level as these?

    BMW Longlife Specs... (LL01, LL04, LL19FE; N52 and B48)

I'm due for an oil change soon so maybe will go LL01 and just hold the Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 I bought till the next one. Probably no wtty concerns after that one given how little the car gets driven. I had every intention of changing from the 0W20 months ago - never got around to it and have put...
