Local Wal-Mart turned away oil change customer... no oil filters in stock for his vehicle.

Pretty sure we've seen posts here saying they have, when necessary, went to the store's shelves, and gotten a filter that they needed, so there's a good chance they don't have ANY suitable filter anywhere in the store.

Quality Control - Domestic vs Japan

That is an odd one and this isn't a worker issue. Do people paint vehicles in assembly plants anymore ? I thought it was all automated and done by robots now. I've only heard it referred to as "ED" in the UK. Here, it's always been "ER". Checked a couple nearby hospitals and they call theirs...

First thoughts on the New F1 changes and broadcast.

I'm very happy seeing Hamilton back in the fight. Sadly, there's a member here who is probably incensed over this. I've still got their PM.... 🤨 I do feel bad for George. I like him and feel he paid his dues, Mercedes now has a great car again, and this phenom is stealing his thunder. Nothing...

    first home purchase, with fiancee

Get ahead of this - the mortgage company should have a form letter or template that your father can complete. I believe he also needs to provide account statements showing a balance pre-gift, then the withdrawal. You may have to do the same with your bank account.

Coincidentally, I went to all (3) of those (well, the elementary I went to was demo'd and moved to the junior high building next door and the junior high moved but is still the same name). I assure you, those ratings are probably bogus. The city (proper) itself only has one school district, so...

Quality Control - Domestic vs Japan

If you're referring to washer/dryers, the plant in NW Ohio is just an assembly plant, i.e. lots of sheet metal screws and screw guns.

Doesn't mean it was done right. I grew up where earlyre is. Here's some examples of other homes (I'll stick to nice parts of town too) in that ballpark: $199k - https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/1224-W-State-St_Lima_OH_45805_M47964-03907?from=srp_next $147k -...

I was born and grew up there - a Spartan. Had Kewpee last weekend when we stopped going to visit our niece up past Findlay.... I'm very familiar with Westgate area from growing up near Jameson and Cole.

Makes sense. The lender doesn't want him "overlooking" things to make it easier for you, then they turn out to be bigger issues that could affect your ability to re-pay the loan. No experience with VA, but FHA loans have stricter inspections, but rightfully so for any gov't-backed loan. What...

    Air Filter life span

OP isn't clear which and I initially thought it was about the cabin filter too.

    Air Filter life span

There is NO time or mileage interval that can be said for all vehicles, in all conditions, across the board. Plenty of good explanations above about this. In two of our previous cars, I did decide to replace the cabin air filter every ~2 years or so but this was because of how (semi) difficult...

Federal Pacific Panel Prevents House Closing

I don't understand how the realtor ties into this either. I presume a hired inspector pointed out the FPE panel and this got passed on to the lender and insurance companies.... Not sure why though. I thought for gov't-backed loans, the lender has to use their own inspection and yes, they have...

Tank-to-bowl gasket for vintage American Standard toilet

They call that U-shaped gasket a "tank cushion". The donut washers are typically so thick that the tank and base never touch each other, so I don't understand the purpose. I've never seen one myself, either in repair kits or on old(er) toilets I've dealt with.

Federal Pacific Panel Prevents House Closing

Insurance didn't know it had a Federal Pacific panel until now. This isn't that unusual.

Window tint options for heat rejection

Why would you have to remove it, for legality reasons ? Every film maker offers a ceramic tint in the 70-80% range that is so clear (clear enough) that no police will think it's tinted.

    Counterfeit NGK spark plugs

That only takes, what, 1/2 the effort compared to the spark plug scam though 😂 I'm skeptical that people are going to go to the effort to buy cheap-priced plugs online, then buy full-priced, expensive plugs at a parts store, take them home, swap them, wait a couple days, then return them. Too...

    Overfilled from the factory?

That could explain why 5 quarts was enough to show properly filled on the dipstick on mine when it spec'd 5.25 quarts. Oh no ! I was always leaving 1/4 quart of old oil in ! 😂 In all seriousness though, it also depends where the oil drain plug is. If it's at the back of the pan, when on ramps...

    Overfilled from the factory?

I check the oil in our cars after they've sat, typically overnight, and haven't been running for 8+ hours. If I have reason to worry that an engine might be low on oil and I can't wait that long, I'll check it and read it and as long as I get a fairly clean 'line' on the dipstick and no smearing...

    Overfilled from the factory?

My comment was STRICTLY in response to them saying people don't read manuals. In another post, I advocated that the dipstick is the FINAL say in determining the level. To me, the manual amount is a guideline or starting point though. On my old car, the manual said 5.25 quarts with oil change and...

    Counterfeit NGK spark plugs

Anything can be counterfeited. Theoretically, the same logic applies to buying new stuff from your neighborhood auto parts store - customer buys dirt-cheap plugs off eBay (could be fake, could be real), they buy "real" plugs from auto parts store, then return the eBay plugs to the parts store...
