    South Korean 737-800 Crash

Well apparently both the CVR and FDR stopped recording 4 minutes before they crashed. Airplane was built before battery backups required!

Have you ever had a leak after an oil change?

Years ago I was changing the oil on my 1988 Kawasaki ZX-10 and the phone rang inside the house. I came back into the garage, got on the bike and pushed it off the center stand. Tried rolling the bike backwards and the next thing I knew the "EXXON VALDEZ" oil spill was forming around my feet. I...

    South Korean 737-800 Crash

I’m wondering if that airplane had the “OLD” style fuel shutoff levers or the “NEW” style version? The OLD style levers would make it easy to shutdown the wrong engine in a panic.

    South Korean 737-800 Crash

Looks like a dual engine failure. Both A & B system hydraulics quit when that happens. Probably didn't have time to crank up APU to provide electrical power either.

    The $100 car

A couple of years ago my brother sold our parent's(deceased) 2000 Mercury Marquis to neighbor across the street from our parent's house for $250! The car had only 135,000 miles on it with a nice interior, OK paint. It had NO mechanical issues, except it needed front brake pads. You should have...

    Chevy inline 5 any good?

2007 GMC Canyon 3.7 5 cylinder original owner. It now has 280,000 miles on it. Only real issue was leaking valve cover gasket at spark plug holes. Had to loosen intake mainifold(PITA) to remove valve cover to replace gasket at 200,000 miles. It has gotten oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals...

9 years out of a battery

Batteries can last a long time. I just replaced a Walmart Everstart(Johnson Controls, Clarios) with a date code of 04/15 in my Protege. The heat finally killed it. My Pontiac G5GT has an AC/Delco that I installed in 2014. Its days are probably numbered. The Optima Blue Top that I use in my Old...

Honda Rebel 250 8000 mile Oil Screen cleaning. A lot of people including Honda dealers blow this off. You have to remove the oil pump to properly clean this screen. To remove the oil pump screws, a J.I.S. #3 cross bit must be used with an impact driver. If you try to use a Phillips bit, you will...

    Sanded Rotors

Most of the Chilton-Haynes manuals I’ve ever seen recommend scuffing up the rotor when installing new pads.

    Broken Pushrod "Read"

According to the Kawasaki manual, you are supposed to remove the cylinder head and clean combustion chamber every 300 hours. It also calls for lapping the valves into their seats at the same time.

    Broken Pushrod "Read"

You might remove the other push rod and install it where the broken one was and check for a stuck valve, or bad camshaft lobe lift, etc. If it checks Ok, buy a new push rod and put it back together. You could try to send Kawasaki the bill!

    Broken Pushrod "Read"

There are NO hydraulic lifters on that engine. At least according to this diagram.

Will the General Altimax RT-45 live up to the legendary RT-43?

General RT43’s have been good tires on my Pontiac G5 GT except for one thing. They pick up Nails and Screws like a Magnet! All four tires have had to have Tire Plugs put in them. Six plugs total in 30,000 miles.
