post your latest transmission lubricant change.

How much did that run? I was about to do my moms 2021 Forester, trying to decide whether to just have dealer do it.

What temperature does the trans fluid have to be in that for an accurate level check through that hole?

Way Back Machine - Snail Mail Letter from GM

Thats really neat. I always had fantasies of getting a tour of Milford. I dont think they do them, but it would be cool as heck.

Way Back Machine - Snail Mail Letter from GM

I thought it was cool that I send a letter to their main contact address, end up getting a letter from one of their lubrication engineers. If you look up the guy’s name he’s on a bunch of papers. Simpler times man…

Way Back Machine - Snail Mail Letter from GM

I was emptying an old box and found this letter from GM. If I recall, I sent an inquiry to the main GM office address. I remember being intrigued by ACDelco 10w40 having Starburst symbol, the only 10w40 I had seen with it.

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

I wasn’t around in the 60’s, but I would hazard a guess to say that there are many more 20 year old cars on the road today then there were back then. So build quality and reliability as a whole has gotten significantly better since even 30 years ago. It wasn’t uncommon at all to be late or have...

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

I can go down the street to a local parts store and get OEM GM parts in the aftermarket. The same as I would get from the dealer window. Thats one reason I stick with GM. I’m not talking aftermarket ACDelco stuff either, I mean OE GM. At prices way less than the dealer. I don’t know any...

severe sludge accumulation in low-mileage engine (video)

GM recommends 33 miles equivalent per engine one hour. Seems like a maintenance schedule based on that metric should come into play in a situation like this.

Stress on Engine When Engine Grade Braking

So clearly there is stress being put on the lubricant.

Stress on Engine When Engine Grade Braking

I always downshift vs. excessive brake use. I find myself wanting to “save them.”. Just using them to put down a little excessive speed, I consider the engine braking to be the primary speed control on long downgrades.

Stress on Engine When Engine Grade Braking

I was driving out of the mountains yesterday and downshifted (as usual) to help with speed control. RPMs go up of course, sometimes to the same levels as when I’m climbing the other side of the mountain. I was pondering, this type of elevated RPM driving wouldn’t put near the stress on engine...

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

That initial batch of Saturns were actually pretty high quality. At the time, it was one of the few non-Japan models that earned a CR reliability recommendation. Those cars had a borderline cult following. They marketing was in fact genius. They made the owners feel like they were a part of...

The backorder situation seems completely out of hand right now

And the low build quality of the parts. Its like everything is disposable now, except the price tag that doesn’t correspond with the disposable nature of the product. I think it was 2023 I had to have a new coil installed on a Lennox a/c unit that was only 6 years old…They were telling me at...

Like this? These kids from the DC area chose the wrong county in Florida to pull this stunt. And the adult coach, who incidentally works for Maryland Juvenile Justice system.

    The dirty side of Goodwill

You articulated my thoughts perfectly. I would add that a lot of the people I see working there appear as though they would have problems finding work elsewhere.

Are we over exaggerating the perfect ATF fluid level? thermal expansion seems to think we are

I guess at the end of the day I was frustrated that I took the time to level the frame (as its not level ground you need, its the frame being level, like you would have on a lift) and do the job only to be stymied by doing the job “right” because the ambient outdoor temp was the same as the...
