    More garbage parts

If that is your only method of cooling, I’d buy a window unit to keep on hand for $200. I’d already have one as I like it cold at night but that would at least keep a room cold if that thing goes down again. How much water does a swamp cooler use?

Water main and sewer line insurance through "the water company"

Sewer lateral replacement is pretty common here on older homes. It’s usually $10-15,000. Insurance through the water/sewer company may not be a bad deal if that’s similar to your situation. Some towns have a fund that pays half or something but is only funded with so much money each year. If...

Curious on what you all think my 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis is worth?

If you like it and ~$5,000 isn’t all that impactful to your life, I’d keep it. I sold my 1990 Mustang GT for $7,500 back in 2010. I so wish I’d kept it. The money did have an impact then as we were building our first home and our financial situation was much different. Now, seeing how hard it...

My new travel trailer - 1999 Sportsman

That’s a great hunting blind around here. Tow to the field and park it. Couldn’t build one out of plywood near as nice. How old are the tires?

Loud and annoying noise from sump/ radon pit, cause and solution

I can’t fathom why the pit would be 10’ deep. I have a sump pit with a pump, it’s maybe 30-36” deep. My radon mitigation system is about 15’ away, with a hole drilled through the floor. The pipe runs up, out the sill plate and up another 12’ and exhausts with a 90 degree elbow so. The radon fan...

New way to steal a vehicle

Buy a Tesla, very difficult to steal. Some here would say the reason they have such low theft rates is because nobody wants them.

New BFG K03s on the Yukon

Currently at 42 psi. Stock tires called for 35. I looked at the load tables and figured this works with plenty of safety margin. If I were ever towing or loading to max capacity, I’d bump it up a bit.

Bought 4 new BFG KO3 tires for my GMC truck yesterday

Got them in the same size in January for my wife’s Yukon and happy so far. Caught some flack here for not buying the absolute best wet performance tire available but opinions are like as…. May have lost a MPG but can’t tell for sure. Lookin good!

Bought my son’s first car: 2008 Toyota Solara

V6 Mustang Convertible is a girl’s car. At least with the Toyota he can pretend it was an older family member’s.

energy usage calculation for home cooling

A two ton AC hardly uses any electric anyways, your peak rate is still pretty cheap and it’s only 4 hours. If it really bothers you, run it at 73 or whatever is comfortable til 2, bump it a few degrees til 6, then set it at 68 for sleeping.

    Is Stifel a scam?

They don’t have any earned income so I can’t start yet. I’ll roll it into a Roth as they start earning money. The balance can just get used for their kids if the $35k limit doesn’t change. Also, the account has to be open 15 years too. Definitely better than it being stuck in the 529 forever.

    Is Stifel a scam?

My kids have 529s setup by grandparents held at Stifel as well. No issues for me. They are a pretty big firm now, based here in St. Louis. Maybe the fees are higher than what I could’ve found at Vanguard or Fidelity but I’m just thankful they set them up, regardless of where they are held. The...

Is she saying veneer because there are holes in the brick? Looks like real brick to me! Impressive how fast they got that brick work done.

Hood pin or hood latch for a compact car?

I would not stress over pedestrian safety too much. Is there a tree you can chain the rad support to and just back up at increasing speeds til it’s back in place? Hood latches are TOUGH if the hood latches. I wouldn’t be worried about the hood opening if the latch actually latches. I’ve seen...

"MoneyLion's" retirement necessities cost by state

I’m assuming this means you own your home outright, as would be the goal for most I’d assume? The article wasn’t clear and obviously this is very generic.

    I bought a 2017 Lincoln Navigator L

I’d hit it with some fluid film or the like and drive that baby.

    I bought a 2017 Lincoln Navigator L

How is the rust underneath? I know a guy that used to buy a lot of trucks out of Texas and many of them were bought by dealers at auctions from northern states, then resold to people thinking they were getting a rust-free southern truck. Power running boards? Enjoy, looks pretty nice from here!

Finding buried sprinkler system control box

I second the wire finder. I got a cheap one to find where the speaker wire in my home theater walls was before cutting holes to pull it out.
