which refrigerator to buy; video from a washer and dryer technician

I'll start out with the statement that they are all junk. With that, in the 33 years that I have been a homeowner, I have generally stuck with major appliances within the Whirlpool group. The only exception to that rule was a Kenmore upright freezer (Rebadged Gibson) that I purchased in 1995...

    Considering a different car

Unless there is an issue with dependability, keep what you have. You are already 5K in on a 13 year old car. May as well get some of the money back out of it. Also, find a good independent Honda specialist to maintain it and save yourself some cash.

Insurance for rebuilt / salvage titled vehicles?

I don't necessarily know about that. My FIL made good coin off of doing that for years. He was certainly no hack. He once had a '35 Dodge pickup he restored featured in a national magazine. However, he did rebuilds as a side hustle to keep his employee busy during lean periods. So no one is...

which new battery to get; price vs warranty

Just buy the battery that has the best access to warranty that fits your pricepoint. A few months ago, I was stranded by a < then one year old WM battery nowhere close to a WM, and ended up having to buy a NAPA to get home. I now have a core sitting in my way in my carport, as the very nice guy...

Insurance for rebuilt / salvage titled vehicles?

My wife had a series of rebuilds, and had both a Dodge Daytona Shelby and a Hyundai Elantra while we were dating. This was because her Dad ran his own auto body business, and did rebuilds as a side gig and kept himself and his family in them. They never had any hassle insuring them. The FIL and...

AC Compressor Clutch Repair - JB Weld?

I'd consider picking up a boneyard compressor. I've done that in the past with much success.

Lawn mower batteries are junk even when new

I've gotten to the point anymore that I just buy the cheapest and view them as a consumable. I have had a John Deere branded battery (that was almost $50 25 years ago) only last a year, while I have had WM or RK cheapos go 6-7 years. I agree with the overall average being about 3 years. I used...

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

Convenience. If I need to put something like 1.7 qts. in the Kawasaki on my JD, I don't need to be messing around with a 5qt jug, a 6qt box, or a 55 gal drum. If I need to carry some in the tool box of my truck for top off, I don't need the 5, 6, or the 55. This view carries across the board...

Anyone Accidentally Find a Good Tub/Shower Cleaner You Never Expected?

We are limited to 409 and a couple of others because we have one of the acrylic tub makeover deals and thus are limited as to what we can use. Actually, the 409 does pretty well.

Plastic repair- whats your secret sauce?

When I had the standard John Deere hood crack (starting from the handle) on my tractor, I used fiberglass drywall tape on the inside of the hood over the crack and slathered this stuff all over it. It has held solid for over eight years. That version of JD Weld, in particular, is great stuff.

Why haven't gas prices gone down?

Taking the discounts wherever I can get them. Just stopped at the Duchess ( The local purveyor of much of the local BP fuel) and took on a load of RUG for the pickup, because it just so happened that I had .60 cents/gallon of discount handy. So: $3.69/gal - .60/gal discount - 4% PNC CC rebate =...

Crashed the Avalon, exploring replacement options

Yes, you have to pay tax to the state where it is titled. The key is to avoid states where you have to pay it regardless of whether not it will be titled there. Looked at a demo truck at a Chevrolet dealership in Miami, Florida. I was informed that I would have to pay Florida sales tax on it, as...
