There was/is a site hosted by a member here that had various calculators and graphing tools for oils. But the last month or two a number of the tools will not load. I just get a 404 page. Does anyone know whats going on with it? Was it abandoned? It was fun to play with.

Doesn’t VW 502/505 also show up on the bottle when A40 does also?

I think so. Others have said before that Castrol synthetics will result in an orangey hue over time.

My 2008 Sedona looked the same way after about 175,000 miles. Orangey brown. Up until that point it mostly saw blends and synthetics (mostly group 3). Changed around 5k miles typically, from what I recall.

FWIW, your engine isn’t really varnished. Just discolored, from the pics shown. I supposed in some respects they are the same, but varnish is harder and more baked on to me, if that makes sense.

I’ve actually read good things about them. I very nearly bought them for my Explorer a few years back.

I thought so too, but @edyvw mentioned to me in another thread that he thrashed it in a 5,000 mile OCI and it didn’t shear much. Must depend on use case.

If those numbers are correct, that oil sheared like crazy in 3,800 miles. A full 3.0 cSt drop 😮 either that, or your fuel dilution is very high. Hard to tell with Blackstone since they don’t measure fuel dilution accurately.

Well that was quick. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 already has a Dexos1 Gen 3 license. This is a brand new data sheet, dated 7.25.26. Today.

Sometimes the tradesmen have no choice but to follow what the architect specs. And sometimes it makes very little sense, but it looks good 🤨

I hope it’s more along the Euro direction. ILSAC 0w-30s are hard to find. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy is the only readily available one. It’s not Dexos ATM, but might be soon. Hyundai/Kia specs a 0w-30 ILSAC for a few models, and from what I can see on the forums, owners have a hard time...

Interesting. Wonder if it’ll be an ILSAC oil or one with a higher HTHS.

Loctite makes this construction adhesive that grabs immediately and is super strong. Home Depot sells it, in a caulk-style tube. I used it to hang foam panels on my cellar walls and ceiling. I believe it works on almost any surface or material.

Was just curious. The car doesn't have one from factory. I added one of those filter sandwich adapters to mine and put a sensor there. Oil temps on this engine are quite low. I've only hit 200 F a couple times. The filter comes right after the sump so I assume the sump temp is the same.

Do you monitor oil temps in your Explorer? Interesting note about the turbo though. My 2016 2.3 has the tow package, which includes an air scoop in the front air dam that directs air to the transfer case and turbo area. But mine does not have active shutters though.
