Actually, since 2023 model year, the Ascent manuals recommend 91+ octane when towing - says something related to reduce temps, etc.

Would certainly default to Pennzoil Euro LX 0W-30 if easy to buy here - but would require $44 for 6 quart bottles, vs $28 for 5 quart bottle. Just too easy with the Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30.

Agree and would except it is more difficult to find and more expensive - like $44 compared to $27.

Hi All, Well, I think I've made decision - I ordered $28/5 qt delivered from Walmart - and will stock Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 for both the Subaru Ascent and the Golf R. Of course - until such time a better solution presents itself! Thanks for all your thoughts!

Yep ... the 5W-30 conventional is in my manual, too. Why add conventional oil ... ever ... to synthetic? Sure, if synthetic not available, but the language is specific ...

Yeah - R (2024 last of the manuals) has 1600 miles now ... so, will probably be out of warranty prior to getting to 5000 miles, but when it does will start doing the changes, myself. One oil on the shelf would be pretty great!

Hi All, Once out of warranty I started doing my own changes - 0W-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum) for a couple, then 5W-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, then 5W-30 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and back to 0W-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I could detect no obvious sound or start or MPG...
