    The Honda Oil Filter Thread

I wouldn't bet on the Champ filters being cheaper, even accounting for international shipping. Indian labor is pennies on the dollar compared to US workers and their labor and environmental protection laws governing the factories are lax. It doesn't look as well made as the PGI stuff we've...

    Donaldson Filter for FL500S/FL2127?

Hmmn, agreed that that doesn't look very good. Maybe I'll pick one up just for curiosity to disassemble and see if the new production stuff is any better.

    Donaldson Filter for FL500S/FL2127?

Was browsing around Donaldson's website and noticed they appear to sell a filter for applications requiring either the FL500S or the FL2127, the P577066. Has anyone had any experience with these, or with Donaldson oil filters in general? They don't give a 99% or 99.9% micron rating but they do...

Oil Strategy To Prevent Carbon Piston / Ring Deposits ?

How do you explain Sequence IIIH being part of the API test battery if it's gas that causes the problem? By that logic, all oils should score identically on IIIH because it uses a specific test fuel.

What can Valvoline do to top Restore and Protect?

Definitely got a funky smell to it, I'm assuming that's the magic additive. To me it smells burnt/toasted.

    New NAPA Platinum Oil Filters

Fancy looking! I wonder if we'll see an O'Reillys equivalent to match this and the other PGI 25k units? Maybe a Microgard Ultra? :D

Post your latest engine/cabin air filter change

2019 Honda Civic, K20C2 engine. 3 years and 20k miles, it looks terrible! UOA silicon hasn't budged so it seems like no harm done. Out: OEM In: Microgard Select MSA51066

    New NAPA Platinum Oil Filters

Devil's advocate question: is there any reason to run these if you don't plan on exceeding the 10k limit from the Premiums (et al)? The media backing is nice but I don't think we've seen a Premium fail before, and I think I'd honestly rather have the increased efficiency.

Pennzoil Taxi Testing – What Can We Learn from Severe-Duty Fleet Testing?

Impressive lack of varnishing even with the extended intervals. In general I would hold real-world testing in higher regard than laboratory test results, especially with a worst-case scenario like a taxi fleet and given how engines have evolved in the last decade vs the "standard" benchtop...

Oil Strategy To Prevent Carbon Piston / Ring Deposits ?

That's the conclusion I've arrived at, unless you either a) have a European vehicle that requires a more stringent spec or b) just want to support the boutiques.

2011 BMW 328 N52 Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W-30 SQ - used oil analysis

Nice looking report this time around, sample 4 is indeed a headscratcher. IMO that's outside the error range of the test results and definitely indicates something was up.

    Valvoline Restore and Protect skepticism

Valvoline's videos indicate that they deliberately selected a low concentration of the magic additive in Valvoline Restore and Protect - it's not a lack of capability, it was a deliberate decision to reduce the cleaning effect. They claim it was to prevent accidental filter overloads, but...

    Valvoline Restore and Protect skepticism

Yes, and they haven't patented the new molecule because that would put all the information out into view and start the 20 year countdown for other companies to have full use of it. By keeping it unpatented, they are betting that other companies cannot replicate the molecule on their own -...
