Same HTHS mid SAPS v full SAPS

I've come back to read this post several times to try and understand it. I have always thought that a 0WXX oil has universally better flow at minus temperatures compared to a 5WXX. I am only just discovering that this is not the case as the relationship between viscosity and cold temperatures is...

Help me understand CCS viscosity versus API grade

This seems counterintuitive to a layperson. One would think a thicker oil flows less at -35 than a thinner oil. I understand if the 0W60 is thicker than the 5W30 at room temp then at colder temperatures (-35) it becomes less viscous hence the naming classification of course. So the message is...

Help me understand CCS viscosity versus API grade

Regarding the original question from the OP I'm surprised nobody has made a graph for the CCS and MRV of various 0W and 5W oils. This would help to compare the different oils. Perhaps there's a secret formula somebody has, to enable somebody to compare viscosity, with the data taken from the...

Thanks for your thoughts. Regarding cold temperature oil performance why is it seen as immaterial. I understand that -1C is a lot warmer than -35C but will a 0W oil not flow better than a 5W at -1C. Is the difference in wear between the two at this temperature negligible? Regarding your...

Truth be told I'm being overly analytical about the oil. The engine is bulletproof as evidenced by my American cousins who have taken various Fords with this duratec V6 to 200k+ miles on all different grades of oil. I'm just looking for that 1%. The engine spends a lot of the time 5k rpm+ so...

Oil film/additive protection ...first few seconds of start-up without oil pressure

The rover v8 is a solid engine, I've overheated them on more than one occasion and they've been fine. They usually build oil pressure pretty quickly from cold start so is it possible there's an issue/delay with the oil light. Or has the oil pressure actually been measured with a guage. Is there...

Help me understand CCS viscosity versus API grade

I just posted on the forum and this question is related to what I'm trying to find out. Does this mean a 0W oil will have better low temp crank low temp pumpability than a 5W oil universally regardless of brand or acea/manufacturer spec? Also I assumed that the relationship between viscosity...

Hi, Below we have two 5w30 oils, the first oil is a C3 ACEA spec and the 2nd is A3/B3. When you look at the hths for them the C3 is 3.7 and the A3/B3 is 3.5. The C3 has 0.7% sulphated ash and the A3/B3 1.24% ash. Both have similar viscosity at 100degrees so my assumption is that the additive...
