I cant see why you cant have a 7.5w35 viscosity by mixing for example 2 litres of Castrol EDGE 5w30 with 2 litres 10w40 of the same formula castrol edge

But im using 20w50 not 10w30

The thinnest the manual lists is 5w30 but thats for cold weather and now the engine has over 300k miles..wont oil consumption go up if i put thinner oil than the current 20w50 im using? or does a top synthetic (but thinner oil)manages oil consumption better than a thicker mineral?

Does a mineral oil with the correct viscosity offer better protection than a full synthetic but with the incorrect viscosity?im asking because my son left some 0w20 & 5w30 fully synth oils but the owners manual of my 33year old car (with over 300k miles and slight oil consumption) does not list...
