Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Please do! I mainly wanted to put my own experience with Valvoline Restore and Protect out there, and it’s good to know I’m not alone in seeing this strange consumption issue. Sharing real-world experiences gives people better information to work with before making the switch, not to scare...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

When you check the oil, make sure the car is on flat ground. Even a small incline can throw off the dipstick reading on some cars. Also let the car sit for a bit before checking so the oil has time to drain back into the pan. In my experience 5 minutes is not enough time. I usually check mine...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I 100% agree as well. I think Valvoline Restore and Protect removed that layer of varnish and now the gaskets are starting to seep a little. I already replaced one because the seep was on the verge of turning into a leak. The best solution is probably to replace all the seals and gaskets but I...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I appreciate your input and advice! Just wanted to clarify, did the element start burning oil after you switched to Valvoline Restore and Protect?

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Let’s not turn this into broad statements about people’s IQ and literacy rates. There’s no need for that. None of us here are running for office (at least I hope not), so there’s no need to put anyone down. As the kids say these days "it ain't that deep!". The main reason I’m looking at a...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I would agree if not for the fact that there was zero oil consumption prior to using Valvoline Restore and Protect. This would be my 4th OCI.

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Hello everyone, Quick update: I checked the oil again at 4,000 miles and it’s down about 0.5 qt. The engine is still burning oil, but at a much slower rate than before, it used to burn about 0.5 qt every 1,000 miles. What’s a bit strange is that at this rate, I would have expected to see at...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

You may be right...or I may be right? At the end of the day, we are all speculating here and I think the pros need to do some actual testing. Because I know for a fact that my engine wasn't burning oil before, but started burning with Valvoline Restore and Protect and then stopped again. There's...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I think the company should do more testing to investigate the temporary oil consumption issue. Yours might resolve itself with another OCI but its hard to tell. It took almost 4 OCI to get rid of the temporary oil consumption in my engine. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Well the issue has been fully resolved so I might run Valvoline Restore and Protect for another cycle and then switch to a High Mileage oil. Haven't decided yet.

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already run multiple fuel system cleaners, cataclean, rislone, redline, etc. Fortunately, I've managed to "clean" the cat to a point where the code only goes off when I take long trips on the highway.

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

After taking the car for a spirited drive, as someone here suggested, the P0420 light came on and has been turning on and off ever since. This particular code has never come on in my vehicle prior to switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect. That’s why I brought it to a couple of shops, they...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I strongly suspect that the reason I’m replacing the catalytic converter now is because of the temporary oil consumption. To be fair, the car is nearly 18 years old, so the oil burn may have just sped things up. Either way, I’m sure this oil works great for many people, in fact, I’m sure it’s...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

I’ve driven about 2,000 miles since my fourth oil change with Valvoline Restore and Protect (total of around 10k since switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect), and I’m happy to report that my oil consumption has dropped to zero! Since my last post, I’ve taken the car to several mechanics...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Thank you for this valuable info! I was going to try this method with yamalube but I am now hesitant because of the P0420 code. I don't want to stress my catalytic converter even more.

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

Update: Should have read your post before going out there for an "Italian tune up". Went full throttle twice on the highway (maybe for 10-15 seconds each), the check engine light came on! P0420. Never had this type of code appear before. Downstream oxygen sensor fluctuating like crazy. Both...

Increased Oil Consumption After Switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect — What’s Going On?

That sounds tempting! Gotta say the thought of a stock car on the track "racing" sounds hilarious but enticing at the same time. I make 8 hour trips per week on the highway often exceeding 70mph. Although, the engine rpm doesn't go beyond 4k often. I will gas it to the max a few times during my...
