You could ask your dealer what is so special about the products they are sticking you with. How did they research what they are so adamant about using? Unless you want to contribute extra to your dealer's retirement account, ask them to leave those out of your vehicle during service.

The tape works most of the time where it's wrapped. I have seen one where the tape was chewed after a repair, so not a 100%.

It sounds too instantaneous on/off for a refrigerant noise to me. Is there something like a hose or line that's against the body or firewall someplace? Maybe it's a resonance from the compressor transferring to the body that wasn't there before something was routed a little differently.
