Any suggestions for cooking a chuck steak?

Way too late to be useful but I treat them like pork steaks - give them a good sear then 1-2 hours in sauce or liquid. I have never had any luck cooking them like regular steaks, but I'm going to try again with a long marinade then a fast cook. It's for science - I expect to have to put them...

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

Yep... I just checked the Pure Gas site (click on AB for Alberta) and there seem to be a number of stations still offering E0: https://www.pure-gas.org/

    Old gas in 2024

Sorry this just occurred to me now (rather than 6 months ago when it would be useful) but if you had the boat on a trailer then... (a) you would not need the electric pump because the boat tank would be high enough for siphoning and (b) if the reason for buying all those gas cans is that the...

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

Just checking... that's sarcasm, right ? I'm not good at detecting it but your earlier post suggests that you know full well that all modern cars are fuel injected ? And yes I like it when people hold up signs... it really helps.

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

I have not heard of any Esso stations offering E0 but it's worth checking. I would be pleased and surprised if they had E0 though.

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

Yeah, the government goal seems to be to destroy OPE unless it is used by First Nations. As long as that translates into a reliable (if inconvenient) source of E0 for the rest of us I can live with it, but my concern is that it will be viewed as a loophole that needs to be closed rather than a...

    John Deere X570, 24hp Kawasaki FR730V, 48" deck

I have a GT235 which seems to be around the same spot in the JD lineup but 20 years earlier. If it ever dies its replacement will be an X570. To me a garden tractor is all about the transmission, and the X570 has a decently hefty transmission IMO. Just make sure you change the fluid as...

Basketball-sized, 25HP 210cc 2-stroke, supercharged diesel rotary to change the armed forces?

Interesting - like an inside-out Wankel engine with non-moving seals and combustion chambers.

Is this craftsman wrench a counterfeit?

Those are definitely two different wrenches - if you look at the "13mm" on the open end side the "1" is outside the wrench opening on the one you received but inside on the listing. All of the photos of current Craftsman wrenches I could find online looked like the listing but not like the...

Post your latest 2 stroke mix

Huh... just realized that the Stihl 2-stroke oil in Canada may not be the same as in the US - what I called "basic" in the previous post is officially called "Premium" and has a Castrol logo on the back. HP does not seem to be available up here and HP Ultra had also disappeared for a while but...

    E0 vs E10 for storage?

It's an old thread, but one thing I learned the hard way is that storing anything under tarps unless it is also sitting ON a tarp (or something else that blocks moisture coming up from the ground) is going to result in a really humid environment under the tarp. Don't know if that is a factor in...

Anyone add an oil filter to a predator 459cc

Normally I would just "like" a post but in this case I like the whole thread... and there's no button for that. Thanks for posting all the details !!

Post your latest 2 stroke mix

Nothing exciting for the Stihl menagerie - 5 liters of 91 octane E0 from what seems to be the last Shell station selling E0 in Ontario plus a 100ml bottle of Stihl basic (orange cap) 2 stroke oil. For the Lawn-boys switched from 4 oz Mystik JT-4 Sea & Snow to half an 8 oz bottle of Lawn Boy...

    FWD vs RWD mowers

I find Personal Pace to be great on flat surfaces but annoying on hilly areas. My main reason for buying self-propelled mowers is to help with those hilly areas - for the flat stuff I can push or use a riding mower - and for hills I find that having to push in order for PP drive to engage...

How to keep this mower in tip top shape?

Another vote for E0 if you can find it. I have always run E0 with the recommended amount of Stabil red in all my OPE and that seems to have been sufficient to avoid most fuel-related problems. If you use the mower on a regular schedule you could run E10 during the summer and switch to stabilized...

What is the best 4 stroke mower you have owned?

An old Craftsman Eager-1 3.5/20 with Tecumseh engine just like the one AnthemBassMan showed in post #69. I don't know exactly how old it is but my parents used it for 20-odd years before passing it on to me and I am coming up on 20 years with it myself. Started first pull even after...

How many hours of use do you change your generator's engine oil?

While I was blathering on about the masonry heater I forgot to mention that I try to change the oil in my generators every 2-3 years of "20 minutes a month when I remember" running. That is only ~10 hours of run time so the oil still looks good but the manuals generally call for OC per season...

Change oil only after 5 hours on new Honda & Briggs small engines?

Draining the initial oil when the sun is shining is what turns sceptics into believers. As you say, the oil color looks fine but that glitter...

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

Yep, that's what I see around here as well... seems like over the last decade or two everyone has come to think of octane and ethanol as being inexorably linked together, as if the ethanol in regular gas somehow reduces the octane rating rather than increasing it.

No more Ethanol free gas in Canada?

Hmm... OK, looks like there is a time window for editing and I missed it. The part I haven't figured out yet re: what to do when stuck with E10 or worse is how to deal with intermittently-used equipment like generators. For seasonally used equipment the best practice for E10 seems to be to...
