Blue/Black Smoke and Popping @ High RPM

Thanks! Not a whole lot of history on the Biarritz. I know it was first owned by a Doctor/Surgeon. A medical logo he applied is still on the right rear of the trunk lid. It was acquired by a family friend in the late 90s and then purchased by my late father in law around 2010. Upon his...

Blue/Black Smoke and Popping @ High RPM

Well, ya. 5600 is well within the operating limits, 900rpm less than redline, and it's not being held there for any extended periods of time. It's hard to tell the color of the smoke exactly because I have only noticed it in the rear view mirror. I had not considered this, as I have owned...

Blue/Black Smoke and Popping @ High RPM

'07 Accord 4cyl w/5mt now has about 175k miles on it. When revving upwards of 5800rpm for more than a brief moment, I begin to hear what sounds like popping in the exhaust, like a carbureted engine would when downshifted, and can see blue/black smoke in the rear view mirror. If I rev quickly...

Hyundai / Kia 2.4L Theta ll success stories ?

Is this something that happens only in newer transmissions? I have never had a transmission register a lower fluid level when warm then when cold. Any transmission I have ever checked has always had the "Hot" higher on the stick than the "Cold" to account for thermal expansion of the fluid.

Toro Push Lawn Mower Briggs & Stratton No Oil Change!

I am conducting an experiment myself with a small Briggs 125cc on an MTD pusher that was given to me. It had just been tuned up and had the oil changed before it was given to me about 6 years ago (Pretty sure the small engine shop filled it with straight 30w). I have never changed the oil on...

    Naturally Aspirated (NA) V8 Engines

I think when it comes to pickups, it's the simplicity that is the key to the N/A V8s, especially if they are planning to keep it for the long haul. Everything from having fewer parts and sensors to potentially replace, all the way down to the simplicity of the maintenance afforded by the N/A V8...

Probably the wrong forum: Oil suggestion for hair clippers?

I have been using a few drops of olive oil for my trimmer for a while now with no problems. I've heard it's also good for the hair. Coconut oil would be my second choice, but it might tend to solidify in our house during the cooler months.

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

Thanks! I agree I do need a real breaker bar or a larger ratchet. The torque wrench I used was a cheapo $20 HF special I had to buy a few years ago for a single job, so no big loss if anything happened to it. I have to ask though, if the wrench was being used within it's designed parameters...

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

Yes. It was the only wrench I had with a long enough handle to give the leverage I needed. It was an 80lb/ft wrench and I set it to about 60lb//ft. This was more than was needed so the wrench wasn't "clicking" and was working pretty much like a standard 1/2" ratchet with a long handle.

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

Just wanted to update this thread. Looks like it sparked quite the discussion (pun intended). I ended up getting all of the plugs out successfully! It only took me about 5 hours, lol. I used a healthy shot of PB blaster down each of the plug holes and had to crank my torque wrench down to...

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

Turns out the plugs I got the from the dealer were actually NKG plugs, not Densos. In looking it up on the NKG site, they recommend NOT to use antiseize with their plugs? https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/resources/5-things-you-should-know-about-spark-plugs Does anyone have any experience with...

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

I missed this part. That's what I like to hear! This sounds like the consensus Timing belt, water pump and tensioner were the first orders of business. I didn't do that job myself, but I did see the belt that came off and I have to say it was in great shape for a 18yr old belt. It had just...

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

Thanks for the replies so far I believe I have Densos replace them with. I got them straight from the stealership. For $1.87/ea I wasn't going to mess around. No offense taken. I tried removal with the motor cold. Would having the heads up to operating temp help?

    Spark Plugs Binding on Removal

I am attempting to do a spark plug change on a new to me 2003 Tundra with the 4.7l V8. I was told it has the original copper plugs in it and it now has a little over 100k miles on it. It still runs well but I would like to change the plugs as preventative maintenance. Upon attempting to...

    Ac overfill/blowout

I have successfully recharged the cooling systems on a '95 Bonneville and a '04 TL using the "EZ Chill" R-134a w/oil from Walmart with good results. Using the low pressure port and the gage that comes with it you can pretty clearly see if the pressure is low (or high) and as you add you can...

    Stuck Fuel Gauge Float

I was able to free a stuck float that would not drop down from full in my Caddy by intentionally stabbing at the brakes several times in succession with about 1/2 tank of fuel left. The idea was to get the fuel sloshing around inside the tank to free the stuck float. It worked in my case.

    Leaf blower bogging

Just wanted to update this thread and thank everyone again for the replies. In this case, I think I lucked out with one of the easiest fixes. Upon opening the gas cap I heard the distinct sound of vacuum being released. I refueled with the same fuel/oil mix, and by leaving the cap on just a...

    Leaf blower bogging

Wow, thank you for all the replies. I only had a couple of minutes to look at it last night, but it appears that almost everything is contained within the plastic shell. I will have to do some disassembly to inspect the fuel lines and look into some of the other suggestions. I will work...

Thank you for the quick replies. I will take a look look into these suggestions and report back if I find anything.

    Leaf blower bogging

Hi all, I was out doing some yard work over the weekend and about an 90 minutes and 1 1/2 tanks of fuel into my leaf blowing the engine started to slowly lose power and not want to take any fuel without bogging down until about 10 minutes later it wouldn't run anymore. Upon trying to restart I...
