Cobalt XFE (Thread-2)

Somethings weird with the new MPG ratings or Toyota had figured a way to manipulate the old test. The Corolla used to be 41mpg hwy is now 35mpg and the Cobalt used to be 34 mpg is now 36mpg. I guess I could have bought a Cobalt instead of my Corolla and saved money. That was a lot of the reason...

    Disappointed with Wix

Quote:
Get the Toyota Matrix XRS OEM filter for the 2ZZ and be done with it! It's the larger one vs the 1ZZ (which crosses to your Fram 4967).

Thanks but no thanks. I have cut open the OE filter and it is worse than a Fram. Worst I have ever seen. Doesn't...

    Fuel Economy vs. Wear

Quote:
...Outdated and notice the wording "probably". ...

That is an understatement. He presents no evidence that 5w20 oils increase wear. Only a European Ford dealer that uses 5w30. Talk about

    Disappointed with Wix

Thanks for the info Drew. I am very disappointed also. I just bought a few napa gold 1396 for my corolla and that is the whole point I went through the trouble to find the longer part number. This is totally pathetic. They should just reference the shorter filter for the longer part number like...

Too bad fuel was not tested. But viscosity is good. Is this still the original air filter? What kind of mpg did you get?

By the way the way artemedes, that is amazing mpg. Does KC have ethanol in their gasoline? Bill's most recent UOA post had even more awesome MPG. I guess the high altitude helps his though. I am envious. The highest I ever had was 38.5mpg, all highway, I did drive 80mph but only some of the...

    Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, 5025 miles, 2007 Corolla

There has been no perceptible oil consumption so far. It says 5w-30 on cap and manual but there is a Toyota TSB specifying 5w-20. That is not why I used it because I didn't even know I had a dilution issue, first time I found out. I did hear other good things about it here however, and that is...

    Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, 5025 miles, 2007 Corolla

Last_Z you are correct. I did change the air filter and when I did i saw a small leak path signature on the sealing surface. The oe filters are one continuous piece of material with pockets pressed in for the pleats and the sealing surface is a hard felt type material. Not ideal. mfisher, not...

Good choice. Looking forward to seeing your UOA too. What kind of MPG are you getting? This is the only UOA so far. I didn't do one this past oil change, but I will on next one in a couple months.

    Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, 5025 miles, 2007 Corolla

Yes he did mention the fuel dilution. It is not the end of the world, but he did mention several negative effects of it seen in the UOA and it should be corrected. Problem is I'm not so sure how. The standard remedy does not seem to have worked if my MPG is any indication. We'll see if it goes...

    PP 5w-20: 4920k miles 05 Honda Odyssey

It's almost all new cars (check out the uoas on here even). I don't know what we can do about it. I have a 2007 Toyota that loads the oil with fuel. Oil used from 10-15k was loaded. And I end up with horrible MPG the last half of the drain...I'm assuming the fuel destroys the friction properties...

    File Recovery

I had a password protected Word document on a flash drive which I opened from the flash drive. I went to close Word and it asked if I wanted to save it and I clicked yes. Then it said it could not save for some reason. Which was fine because I didn't make many changes this time. So I closed...

    EBC "Red, and "Green" Pads

I would not use the "Red" on the street. They need to be hot to have enough friction. Have them on my BMW and there was many times I couldn't even activate ABS. They likely will INCREASE your stopping distances on a daily driver. Not a safe choice.

I would say insolubles seems to be more linked to combustion efficiency or engine cleanlines than particle efficiency of the filter.
