So you bought a high mileage auto.....

At least it doesn't "claim" Mercon ULV as well!

So you bought a high mileage auto.....

Sure seems like a one-size-fits-many fluid. All I see on the spec sheet are a lot of "claims" and "suitable for use" statements...

So you bought a high mileage auto.....

You may have already found it but if not, fjcruiserforums.com is the best source for all things FJ.

FJ Cruiser oil choices and reccomendations.

A little pricey in my book for a "beater". ;) But I can sympathize with the standardization goal. Simplicity and enjoyment are the main drivers here.

So you bought a high mileage auto.....

Bought one exactly like it one year ago with 287,000 miles showing. I use same oil the prior owner used, Valvoline Advnced Synthetic 5W-30. I have since outfitted it for off-road use and now do this type of thing with it: This is fairly well the completed version: They are tough trucks.

    Mix pennzoil ultra and platinum

If I mix a 5W-20 and a 5W-30, can I wind up with a 10W-30? (Serious question as I regularly do it to up the 100°C cSt viscosity on several vehicles still under warranty.)

    Mobil “full synthetic”

Does "Recommended by ExxonMobil for use in the following application - Chrysler MS 6395" mean it actually has the Chrysler MS6395 approval? Or is it more like demarpaint says it just technically meets it. And if it just technically meets the spec and other Mobil products could/do technically...

    Oil Drain vs Extraction

When I can consistently get all but a few ounces of the oil out by extraction, I am good to go with it. 2017 3.6L Pentastar is a stellar performer. 2007 5.0L GM (Volvo) marine can only be changed by extraction and is consistent at only getting 5 out of 5.5 quarts out. But since I only run 50...

Replacing my Group 27 battery with Group 31 battery. Is that ok?

Based on the way you use a battery I would get a dual purpose (starting/deep cycle) marine battery. And if possible keep it on a charger/maintainer when not in use.

Don't use the Harbor Freight jack stands

"..... These stands consist of a stamped metal four-leg base, into which slides a vertical, toothed lift post. A pawl assembly built into the metal base engages with the teeth on the post, permitting height adjustability. The design of these simple, rugged jack stands is ubiquitous; the same...

Check your spark plugs if you order them online

It is not only NGKs that come in counterfeit varieties. I bought some ACDelco Iridium plugs (# 41-993) off eBay I believe to be fake. My suspicions arose when I discovered that all ACDelco plugs come from the factory properly pre-gapped (per their web site and direct human confirmation). The...

New member, high mileage old Toyota review

I just bought a one-owner 2007 FJ Cruiser 4WD with 288,000 miles on the clock. Scared the daylights out of me but couldn't resist at the price. Good to hear stories about Toyota longevity.

PUP vs PP... can't find PUP locally. Is there a difference???

*Maybe* PUP has additives that PP doesn't and that do not get measured in the typical analysis or *maybe* the quality of the additives in PUP (PPDs and VIIs for example) are higher than those in PP. Just wondering out loud. I certainly do not know. All I do know is that I have never seen PUP...
