Why all the hate for Chysler/Dodge/Jeep auto's

I think they get a bad reputation in the automotive/technician community because back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s they had a lot of transmission problems, evap codes, O2 sensor codes, leaking intakes, leaking fuel rails, AC condensers. I used To be a tech for a fleet...we only had GM, Ford...

    That time of year.....

One if my biggest fears is rodent damage. Between them eating wires under the engine cover (they love the oil that’s on the wires), or them nesting up in the heater area...and leaving a stench in there that lasts for years. It’s a problem. I’ve heard dryer sheets works, it doesn’t, tried that...

    Car maintenance and home equity

Reminds me of the old Yiddish proverb...Man plans...and god laughs. And that’s true.

Is AFM still an issue for 5.3L Chevy trucks?

Honestly, I think you’re right. The less these things switch back and forth between V4-V8, the less wear on the pins in the lifters. Less stress on the transmission constantly shifting.

Is AFM still an issue for 5.3L Chevy trucks?

Yeah, I tend to agree. AFM not really a huge deal anymore, but torque converters, condensers, starter motors, injectors (misfires), vacuum pump, frame rust, Chevy shake are the issues. And out of all those, the torque converter and fuel injectors are really the only thing that bothers me. I...

    Car maintenance and home equity

Life certainly is a journey, you will make lots of mistakes but learn from them and always try to make the very best decisions you can. When I was young I managed to stay living at home as long as I could and saved...moved out at 24 and bought my first house with a 30,000 dollar down payment...

Would you use 0W30 instead of 0W20?

    I’m assuming they’re experts.

Water softener making my water bill very high?

I checked it the other day, it said “next regeneration in two days”. So it’s not doing it every other day. I grabbed the owners manual...didnt get a chance to look through it yet.

“I need a new car because” blah blah blah thread

It is hard to reach car payment level with repairs, but the thing that usually finally gets me is the BIG repair and the multiple little repairs that just keep happening. There’s two things going on there...decisions needing to be made and aggravation. But I keep telling time you...

“I need a new car because” blah blah blah thread

It is harder to keep a vehicle long term than some people think. I'm talking over 200,000 miles and keeping it as your daily driver with a decent commute. But I love high mileage stories and always intend on keeping my cars long term, but it is some work. I kept a Honda Accord all the way till...

    Thick vs thin debate...

Aren’t you on another thread talking about how your Ferrari is using two quarts of oil in 500 miles and is in danger of going down to zero in the sump? I would really, and quite honestly, seriously question any technical discussions you’ve had with Ferrari’s technical staff. As far as I know...

Over 25 Vehicles and Never Had to Top Off

Am I missing something? I always assumed the dipstick was there to let you know when to add oil and check level. If it’s low it needs to be topped off. You don’t have to do that. You don’t really have to do anything at all. I could crap my pants and walk through the mall like every day was a...

    2011-up ~250hp daily driver for <$15K?

I own a 2016 Toyota Avalon. 300 hp, really gets up and goes and I’m averaging 29.5 mpg since I’ve owned it. Paid $15,000 even for it with 50,200 miles. Loaded, no accidents. Very reliable the point where I don’t really even bother checking the oil in between oil changes. It just doesn’t...

    Hypothetical Scenario

That’s a tough question. I‘d probably chose to dump it, BUT keeping it wouldn’t be the end of the world either. Couple issues. It’s 18 years old. That’s old. Lots of other unforeseen things could also potentially pop up. Just the way it is (and should be expected). The oil burning is a game...

    Bad valve guides?

I came to the conclusion that the valve guides were bad because he told us that a technician told him they were. Even if they weren't bad, he only has a limited amount of options - with the valve seals and PCV being two of them (the valve guides are off the table and so are rings because of...

    How physically active are you?

I run on the treadmill 6 days a week (40-60 minutes) and I lifg three days a week. But I overeat and I’m probably 30 pounds overweight right now. I just can’t seem to get motivated. I’m pushing 50 and when I lose weight I actually look it’s tough to get myself into a serious diet...

Who has the biggest Stash? (Or 'stache)

Stash isn’t what it used to be, which tells me that I’m missing out on rebates, promotions and clearance sales. All I’ve been able to get my hands on of late, has been two jugs of Pennzoil (buy 2 get a 22 Shell gist card). But this will still last me a year or so.

Water softener making my water bill very high?

Oh wow, I had no idea. I’ll look into it and change it. Like I said, the previous owners said they liked their water very soft. I haven’t even read the manual or touched the thing. But I’ll tell yeah, I‘ve never had a water softener, could care less really, BUT my hair is so darn soft it feels...

What are you doing right now?

We got rid of cable three years ago and went with a Roku stick and YouTube tv. I’ll never go back to cable if I can help it. I’m not saving a ton but it’s something, plus I just hated cable. All those channels and I never found anything I liked. To tell you the truth, I’d cancel youtube tv if...
