Does Size Matter? Engine Displacement….How Low Can They Go?

Turbos make more hp under the curve, and sometimes use fuel to cool the charge and run rich. They have the potential to be more fuel efficient when kept out of boost, but most drivers don't have the right foot mod.

Does Size Matter? Engine Displacement….How Low Can They Go?

Turbo isn't spooling at 80 mph unless you're towing.

Does Size Matter? Engine Displacement….How Low Can They Go?

Depends on drive cycle. The turbo can do better at steady state, but in stop and go the NA will do better. Less power under the curve. I can get great mpg in my Ecoboost if I keep RPM below 2500.

    Chevrolet BOLT resurgence

Can't ignore the gov't bailout in that history. GM has chosen fast follower status in the EV market, but I think it is well positioned to supplant Tesla as the leader in EV volume. Tesla messed up its product line with the Cybertruck, no updates to the S or X, and no sub Model Y model. Plus Elon...

    Chevrolet BOLT resurgence

I thought about that immediately after posting. Thanks for the correction. I guess the open question is what impact loss of the credit will have on sales volumes. The Bolt seems like it's targeting the segment immediately below the Equinox. If they can ship them priced near 30k that's still very...

    Chevrolet BOLT resurgence

The tax credit only impacts demand for the vehicle, not GM's cost. GM previously said it was nearing profitability on its EVs. The term used was variable unit profit, which I guess means revenue now covers the cost of production but not the initial capex. I think GM will be able to sell the...

    Zeekr “Golden Battery” Charging Test

It's the heat from fast charging that degrades the batteries. If you can get the internal resistance down enough to reduce heat buildup and reduce internal swelling , the battery will accept a higher C rate. BYD isn't the only one claiming these C rates. Storedot says its tech will be on the...

    Blazer EV SS - Nice!

That's not entirely true. Some people only tow locally or short distances. The Silverado/Sierra can do ~200 miles towing, which isn't much worse than my Expedition which is good for 250. There aren't enough pull through chargers yet, but if someone is only towing a boat to a lake, a trailer for...

    Blazer EV SS - Nice!

I usually average between 2.3 and 2.8 miles / kWH with mixed city and highway driving, and that's with my regularly exceed 80 mph. Speed limits are 75 mph between major cities in Texas. I've seen at low as 1.8 miles / kWh but that was in winter doing 80 mph. The pack is 100 kWh, so that...

    Lets talk about new vehicles

There's a recall for a parking brake issue. I haven't had any problems with mine for the 15,000 miles I've driven it, apart from software glitches. Sometimes I loose audio if I use Google voice prompts while playing music or podcasts and the car likes to forget synced phones. Apart from those...

Lucid Air Sets New Record 747 Miles on a Single Charge

Earlier today Lucid reached out to me about a Gravity order transferred to my area. When I saw the sticker was 120k I almost laughed. Knowing what I know about their depreciation...I make good money, but not enough to light it on fire. We just turned in our I-Pace. Not in any rush to replace it...

Lucid Air Sets New Record 747 Miles on a Single Charge

Gorgeous car inside and out. I thought it would be my next vehicle, but my wife will not be happy with the low ride height. All these headlines are essentially clickbait. Many EVs can exceed mileage ratings when driven at low average speeds. But why bother? The fuel is so cheap I drove mine like...

    I drove my first electric - 2025 BMW i4 M50

All lithium based chemistries leave a top buffer. The primary reason for charging LFP to 100% is that they have a stupendously flat voltage curve. So while they do benefit from keeping the voltage lower, they have to be charged to 100% periodically to top balance them. Otherwise you end up with...

    I drove my first electric - 2025 BMW i4 M50

A few points: (1) The buyer knows what they're getting and can decide what is sufficient. My wife's I-Pace is rated at 240 miles. We almost never use the entire range because it's not a road trip vehicle, so it's fine. (2) The range can be extended substantially by opting for smaller wheels...

    I drove my first electric - 2025 BMW i4 M50

It's basically the trim level, but higher numbers denote higher performance. For example, the i4 M50 has been replaced by a i4 M60 for 2026. It has also received a power bump. But 60 > 50 > 40, so that much is apparent to the consumer. Displacement lost its meaning when manufacturers began...

Another electric car almost out of power.

I've run out of gas twice in ICE vehicles. Just being stupid and taking unnecessary chances. I took my Focus EV down to less than 1% remaining twice but both times were unique circumstances. Once all the L2 chargers were being used by Teslas, so I tried to make it another charger 40 miles aways...

    2026 Cadillac OPTIQ-V w/NACS

Looks nice so far. Might consider it as a replacement for my wife's I-Pace.
