Recommend trans fluid for 01 VW Passat

You can get the transaxle lube from the dealer. The factory VW lube is your safest bet in the long run.

02 Jeep has developed a lifter tick.

No EGR on Jeep 4.0s. The only emissions equipment they have are a catalytic converter(s) and the fuel vapor recovery system (that black canister setup on the left fender.) Some would say the CCV, Jeep's version of a PCV, could also be an emissions part depending on how you look at it...

02 Jeep has developed a lifter tick.

Before writing off a lifter just yet, it could be a fuel injector that is going bad. They WILL make a lifter-like rapping/tapping noise when this happens. I had it happen to a couple of mine (97 4.0). I was ready to tear into the engine when a buddy of mine told me to make sure the injectors...

    Joe Gibbs Racing Oil

Larry- Gibbs has been successful in everything he has done from football to motorsports. He knows how to cover his end and has made others look like fools in the process. His name and reputaton are on the line here, so the oil he's selling is going to be first rate. I'm more than sure his top...

    V8 F1 Cosworth engine 20,000 Rpm's video.

That thing sounds cool, but ****, V8s ain't made to spin 20,000 rpm. It's amazing what they can do with modern valvetrain technology, amongst other things.

    2006 Ford Racing Catalog

It's nice to see that Ford is moving away from hyperutectic pistons and putting forged pistons in it's higher hp crate engines. Now if GM would do the same.............

F-1 Team to Attempt Speed Record at Bonneville

I always wanted to know what a F1 car could do if it had a wide open place to run and was geared accordingly. It should be a wild ride.

Best oil for a Chevy 502/450hp stock crate engine?

If it were mine, I'd run Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W50. It's nice and thick and perfect for a 502. Why? All GM 502 crate engines are oil burners because GM put low tension rings in them and running a thicker oil helps the oil consumption out a little.

    Reply from Mobile

If one is worried about it, drag out the OCI an extra 2-3 months or buy your oil from some shop, store, etc that isn't a high volume business. You'll likely have a better chance to get old, pre Katrina brewed oil that's just been growing old on the shelf.

    Joe Gibbs Racing Oil

Considering a professional NASCAR or NHRA drag racing engine alone is worth around $50,000 and the R&D for that said engine is probably triple that, $119 for oil is like $.10 to you and I.

Not the same: Chevron Supreme and Havoline

"In addition, he stated to me that it is illegal to market an indentical product under different brand names and charge different amounts for it." Guess this doesn't apply to automakers. They're the masters at doing this.

How often do you change your air filter?

"Dirty air filters are more efficient at filtering than the clean ones." On the flipside of that, a dirty air filter will cause a loss of MPG and performance.

NAPA, fram, ac delco ro purolotor fitlers?

I use Purolators in all of my cars and trucks. If I didn't use them, I'd use dealer OEM.

Slightly off topic, but still air filter related.

I was at Target the other day and noticed that they had Purolator furnace filters! They didn't have my size, but I thought it was cool. I never knew they were in the home furnace filter business. I wonder what other filters they make?

    Joe Gibbs Racing Oil

This oil sounds like it's designed for the high horsepower monsters running around on the street and the tracks. Not to say that the daily driver can't use it though as long as it's capable of being used on a daily basis. Some racing oils are just that, racing oils and are not designed to go for...

    Mobil 1 5w40 vs. Rotella T Syn?

Delvac 1 can be found at truckstops. Mobil 1 Truck and SUV can be found at Murray's and Walmart. The 5W40 shouldn't be a problem as it never really "gets cold" down in North Carolina.

Diesel rated oil in gas engine, Why Not?

You really have to take those TV "car shows" with a grain of salt sometimes. They have to cut corners and the such to make the program flow and fit into the time slot they're allowed. Sometimes things like tying up a caliper get overlooked in the name of saving time. It happens. DIY Mechanic or...

Is 'most wear at startup' a myth?

The "start and go" statement I made refers to the modern fuel injected engine's ability to be able to be driven off immediately after starting due to the inputs of the engine's sensors and the computer's ability to intrepret them real time and adjust the fuel mixture accordingly. This means the...
