Oil change - do you remove oil pan?

Here's a much simpler idea. Buy 2x the oil you need. Drain the old stuff and discard it. Change filter. Fill the engine with new stuff. Run it for a few minutes to mix everything up. Drain slightly dirty new stuff, but do NOT discard. Drain filter. Refill with new stuff. You can use this...

    Honda 94 ex oil

Your old Honda is very easy on the oil. 3K changer are completely unnecessary. The K&N filter is great, and can easily go 10,000 miles. As others have suggested, the Purolator Pure 1 is just as good, at half the price. How about this: Change the oil every 5,000 and replace the filter every...

Auto vs Moto with math formula

A 1000cc street bike with sporty rubber will kill any 4 wheeled whale you can buy on the showroom, but once you add wings to the car... Look at Laguna: The fastest bike lap I could find was a 1:20.7 on a 240hp, ~470lb (bike + rider) Moto GP beast. Duc/Stoner/2008 The track record is held...

    Post your current MPG

92 Accord wagon, 2.2 liter, 4 cylinders, 5 gears. 34~37 freeway, depending on cruising speed which is seldom much over 65. 31 ~ 34 around town, depending on the temperature and traffic encountered. I don't drive like the OCD hypermiler idiots you've seen on TeeVee, but do make a reasonable...

what grade of oil do you stash?

My current stash is limited: Leftover quart of 0W-30 GC. 5x qt M1 15W-50 for the bike. Think I've got a gallon of Delvac 15-40 out in the shed. In general, I'll buy anything that will be useful. This is generally any Syn xW-30 (I like the long OCI) for the Accord and a robust xW-50 for the GPz.

Good work! I just hope you don't get blamed when the headlight burns out next week. (After all, you were the last one to touch the car!)

German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 for 1998 Civic D16Y7

If you've already bought the oil, or are looking to vulture a good sale, go for it! Yea, GC is ~20% thicker than 'standard' xw-30. Not quite ideal, but absolutely no biggie. You might loose 0.5 MPG if you run around in 2nd gear all day. If your engine is reasonably clean, without massive...

What's The Farthest You've Ridden 750cc or Less...

About 440 miles on a GPz550. (SLC area to Tonopah) I don't remember feeling particularly tired; if anything, I found the ride across Nevada relaxing and enjoyable. Did another 400+ mile ride the very next day to arrive in central Ca.

What to do with my Honda....

Sorry, I don't follow why you're so keen to tear everything apart. Can't you check the PCV functionality by simply detaching the PCV valve and blow into the line?

    HTHS questions

I'm seeing RL's 0w-20 HTHS at 2.7 Not a huge deal, but is IS lower than what Volvo have in mind. Yes, it's got gobs of additives and won't thin with use, but it is still a hair 'thin.' The fact that Volvo show different temp ranges for the 5 and 10W-30 oils suggest that they are worried about...

    HTHS questions

Looking at http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/1996/1996_850/96850_901.htm it seems Volvo is leaning toward the thicker end of the 30w spectrum. RL's 0w-20 is no doubt a great oil, but it's a hair thin for my comfort level. A blown engine will place a lot of load on the bearings at at lower RPM...

    10w 40 and Honda

Won't hurt a thing. Hot 10-40 has the SAME viscosity as slightly cooler xW-20. Those of you running 'thin' oil, you don't hear horribly grinding noises coming from under the hood as the engine warms up, do you? Mild Overkill, but 100% harmless!
