I had an 86 Peugeot 505 Turbo, and ya, that thing would blow fog though the vents; I was always turning the temperature 'up' when the a/c was on, even above 90 f outside!

To any A/C experts out there, what is the coldest temp air that should come out of the vents? In my 06 Saturn Ion, 55 F is the lowest I see. The A/C shop I take it to for service verified that everything is working as it should, and if I want it any colder I should consider a new compressor...

I kinda miss distributors! I remember advancing the timing just to the point where the pinging started, depending on the quality of fuel. Also real glass headlights, actual buttons that make click clack sounds, hydro p/s, and using an actual key to open and lock the doors, and start the car!

I maintain my cars as if I'm going to keep them forever, and since I do my own maintenance work the cost is reasonable. The result is 100's of thousands of km's without a single break down. Since I live in the rust belt I also oil spray the underside, replace the brake lines before they rust...

My 06 2.0 S/C Ecotec with 65k miles looked like new under the valve cover, just so clean. Steady diet of Mobil 1 and driven spiritedly.... Lower miles I know, but had never seen a cleaner valve train.

I despise all oil leaks, so if I plan on keeping the car I'll grudgingly fix all oil leaks as they appear. I hate the mess and the smell when parking the car after a summer drive. I remember 20-30 years ago it was not uncommon at my friends shop to pull motors just to reseal them! Made sense...

2006 Saturn Ion Redline 5 spd manual with a Quaife LSD. out: just under 2 liters of the rankest, murkiest sparkly oil I've ever seen. 50k km on it. in: AC Delco GL-4, which I think I will change more often now :unsure:

Yes I saved the old oil, I want to try and fabricate a lava lamp out of the oil/ suspended yellow metal. For sure I want to also do a UOA on some of it too, the results should be quite amusing ....

It will for sure pop out of 5th on it's own under light load, always has, so I only keep a 'light hand' on the shifter when I know I am approaching a stretch of highway where it usually pops out of 5th. I know it's technically not good for anything trans related to rest a hand on the shifter...

Yes for sure I plan on keeping this car! Thankfully I was able to buy a new transmission 5 years ago, I'll be installing that when either the current transmission starts losing gears or the clutch goes. It's a coin toss to see which fails first!

Yes it was hard to find the correct fluid! I got some AC Delco 75w85 from the local GM dealer which they sold me based on my vin #. It took a few phone calls though, it's almost as if they did not want me to get any? Weird.... There is no doubt in my mind that I have worn synchros:p...

It was the base model Ions that ran ATF in the manual transmissions, but the Redlines have a Getrag box that uses 75w90. My car does not have the 'no lift shift' feature, that was in the later Cobalt SS turbos.... but it must be pretty hard on the trans, and the car in general!

5000 miles max on my 2006 Saturn Ion Redline. Runs slightly rich. Being mostly city miles and that the motor is supercharged, I would not want to go much farther then that. Mobil 1 + a Hengst filter.

Long story short: I have an aftermarket sts (OTTP) shifter in my Saturn Ion Redline. That knob is threaded 3/4-16. I bought another shift knob that is 10x1.25 that of course does not fit, but came with 3 different adaptors, none of which fit... Is there some weird old carpenters trick of...

By 'more bite', I do mean more stopping power. The couple times I had a panic stop situation, it just feels like it could stop harder. Tough to explain. I could get a Brembo front brake kit (calipers, pads + rotors) but then I need new winter wheels and tires....and then I'm well over...
