Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

SO, I thought I read here that the efficiency of these was 99% at 20 microns, however, looking at the Premium Guard website, it's showing 99% at 25 microns for the Premium Guard Extended Life. https://www.pgfilters.com/product-catalog/product-page/PG4612EX/2024-Honda-Odyssey/Oil-Filter/

Damaged skid. Why you should change the oil yourself

Nothing to remove for an oil change on the Odyssey. And it uses a standard spin-on. Big upgrade from our 4Runner, which had a splash shield AND a skid plate to remove, as well as a cartridge filter.

    We Bought a 2024 Odyssey

It’s been great! It’s been my wife’s DD for her 72-mile round trip daily commute, and we’ve taken several longer trips down to the coast, up to see her family in Indiana, and to see my family in Memphis. No mechanical issues or any problems of any kind. We especially like the sliding doors...

Restaurant "Price and participation may vary"

Firehouse Subs sell their old 5-gal pickle buckets for cheap. Like $1.50 or something. Maybe even less, I forget. Anyway, I bought 2 to use as my car wash buckets. Took over a year for pickle smell to go away! They’re attractive buckets. I bought grit guards to go in the bottom.

    Mobil 1 AFE 0W-30 4.1k mi; '23 Ford Bronco 2.7L 24.5k mi

I think Wear Check may have got your sample mixed up with someone else's. That looks like a completely different additive package. Much more ZDDP, but very little Mo. The only value that's really close to the other 0W-30 samples is the B content and the viscosity. Maybe some of the formulators...

    Coffee - Your Current Brew

For the past few months I've been using the James Hoffman 5-pour method, which is essentially 5 pours, which is quite a bit of agitation in itself, but not a lot of additional swirling or stirring, and grinding fine enough for around a 2:30 drawdown for 200-250mL brews. This works well for light...

    Coffee - Your Current Brew

Wow, awesome! I think 202°F is a good temp to start with. If after trying that, it needs a boost in acidity/punch to make things more interesting, you can go up a few degrees. Sometimes light roast washed coffees even need 210°-212°F to extract well. 4 on the Ode 2 sounds pretty fine. Did you...

    The Speed Of Light ??

The effect is measurable even at speeds much lower than that. I’ve always been fascinated with this subject and I remember reading that the internal clocks of satellites (traveling at speeds of well above 10,000 mph in orbit) need compensation to deal with the relative difference with clocks...

    Sakura C-1138 cut open

Thanks for the post! It's cool that you took the time to do this, and post on BITOG, despite the challenges you must have even with everyday living in East Timor. This is a little off topic, but I remember hearing about the conflict there about 25 years ago, and the genocide. May I ask what...

    Military loses FA-18 overboard…

We don’t need to wipe them out to debilitate their ability to cause trouble for shipping, and Israel can certainly take care of themselves. Air and missile strikes can certainly make their existance a living hell, and cause them to scratch their heads and re-evaluate their plans and course of...

    0W-40 or 5W-40 only

Not exactly. Anybody remember low tension piston rings on the 5.3 V8s back in the 2000’s and 2010’s? Those engines drink oil like crazy.

empty sump start - Biggest blunder EVER…..

Back when I was 18, in 1997, and didn’t know anything about cars and hadn’t started changing my own oil (but did, however, believe in the superiority of Mobil 1), I would usually take my car, a 1987 Nissan Maxima 5-speed, to a local quickie lube place for oil changes. As I mentioned, I’d often...

Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

Never had a problem, but yeah, I can see that happening. Seems like the Frams I’ve always bought at WM have a little circular clear tape on them keeping them from being opened.

Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

You’re at least the 2nd guy here to suggest the possibility that an oil filter could be “tampered with”. Seriously? Who’s gonna go mess with an oil filter? Some of y’all are paranoid! 🤣

Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

Been a long time since I was in a Carquest, but I do seem to remember them being sort of an old fashioned operation like that. You go to the counter and tell them what you want and they go get it out of the back. NAPA is similar but they keep some stuff up front.

Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

Forgot to mention, my local AAP didn’t have the Carquest Premium on the shelf. I asked, and they said they don’t keep it on the shelf because they don’t market them to retail customers. They market them for their fleet/commercial customers (who probably get a better price than what I paid)...

Picking oil filter for severe service

A Carquest Premium is only $10 at AAP. Similarly, a Fram Ultra is about $9 at Walmart and a Mobil 1 is around $11. Those are pretty good prices for 3 oil filters that are 99% efficient at 20 microns and which I wouldn’t hesitate to use. I’d run some VRP 5W-30 at 5000 mile OCIs and cut open...
