    VW Jetta question...

The Mark IV 99-04 is the best Jetta made in my opinion. Resale can range from the low 10s to 18s depending on what it's equipped with. The VR6 engine is the most powerful and the least expensive to maintain because there is no timing belt to change. The 2.0 and the 1.9 TDI are solid engines that...

    301,000 miles on a 99 300M!!

Exactly. This trans would've never made it this far if it hadn't been for the highway miles. Any auto trans runs it's coolest on the highway and the lack of shifting for miles on end adds tons of life to the clutch packs and torque converter clutch. Don't even remotely expect this kind of life...

    New VW Rabbit

Golf=Rabbit. VW has gone back to the "Rabbit" name to invoke nostaglia. That's all nice and fuzzy if you want to relive your past or whatever. It does look nice and the 5cyl is a nice engine, but the cylinder count reminds me of 1980s Audis. While not shown in the specs, the new turbo-charged...

GTX 20W-50 vs. Valvoline VR1 20W-50, which is best?

Hands down, the VR1 20W50 is much better than GTX 20W50. It's the best 20W50 dino oil you will find and is made for racing conditions and has it's additive package modified accordingly. If you want to run a dino racing oil, any of the VR1 series will work great and they also come in thick...

    Suggestion for 2.0 Jetta, non-turbo

Those links above really put the fear of *** in you huh? That's not necessary. If a VW 502 oil is not available, especially if you have a non-turbo charged engine, a SL grade oil can be used without any ill effects in your VW engine. Both of my wife's 2.0 VWs, a 01 Beetle and a 04 Jetta, state...

    Suggestion for 2.0 Jetta, non-turbo

You are using oil because that 30wt is slipping past those low tension rings. Step it up to a 40wt and your oil consumption will go away.

    Suggestion for 2.0 Jetta, non-turbo

5W40 is the best oil for the 2.0. I only run synthetic 5W40 in late model VW 4cyls. I wouldn't run a 30wt in them under any circumstance due to the low tension rings, but that's just me. Some choices are http://www.performance-cafe.com/index.php?cPath=200...

    No more TSUV 5-40

Being a VW person, I found this 5W40 a while back. This might help out some of the other VW nuts we have here that can't live without their 5W40. http://www.performance-cafe.com/product_info.php?cPath=200&products_id=1234

What do you do with your used oil?

I dump all my old oil, trans fluid and gear lube into a big 5 gallon jug (frying oil container used by restaurants) and drop it off at Autozone when it's full.

    Dealership Silliness

Most people at the dealership do not know anything about cars in general, let alone the cars they sell/work on. The only ones that have any clue at the dealership are the mechanics, but even then that could be suspect

    Purolator has been bought out!!!

They had made in the USA printed on the filter can. Not that it matters anymore because I no longer use Purolators.

    Rotella T 10W30 MIA?

All of the Menards I've been to, 4 now, have hardly any stock left, like only a couple gallons here and there. So I've been buying up all of them I can find in case this oil doesn't get restocked. So if you want it, you'd better get it while you can.

    Purolator has been bought out!!!

Where'd you get that from? The various Purolators I used up until a couple of months ago had made in the USA printed on them. That's your opinion and you are entitled to keep it.

    Purolator has been bought out!!!

After MANY years of Purolator/Motorcraft loyalty, I have moved on after hearing this news. I now run Carquest Blue filters, which are made in the USA on top of being a high quality filter. Bye bye Purolator.

    Motorcraft FL-1A for 4.0L?

On the Jeep TJ, it's a real tight fit on the 97-99 4.0 models; it comes real close to the upper control arm at full suspension compression. I stopped using them a couple of years ago due to this. The 00s and up have no fit problems at all due to the filter mount being horizontal.

    Rotella T 10W30 MIA?

You can find it at Menards in gallon jugs for $8 and some change. And it is rated SL for gasoline engines, not SJ like someone else said.

    Warning!! Jiffy lube

If someone doesn't have the capacity to change their oil or do other routine maintenance on their cars or trucks, they should either go to a trusted, reputable local mechanic or a trusted and reputable dealer. Any other places are just ripe for disaster and you will get what you pay for.
