I'm looking at another car 😱

So that's not one of the water pump in the timing cover jobs? Wish I could find a list of all Ford vehicles/engines with that flaw. Hint hint...

$6k taillight (assembly) replacement Hummer EV

You know why the taillight is $6,100? Because the vehicle is $115k. This is the new scheme. Make everything associated with something expensive, expensive as well because, why not? You know the target is ok with spending the money already. Like shooting mullet in a barrel of mud.

    other uses for starting fluid?

Cleaner. Just be careful, it will probably melt some soft stuff.

Anyone still like use wix mahnn filters now?

Well, one might argue that they're just good enough to help the engine last through warranty period. I don't know, and I doubt anyone else on this site does either but there's two sides to that assumption. The thing with all these anecdotal scenarios is everything's fine in the near future...

    Pearl Harbor

Yeah the "plume" has spread a lot since then, like some sort of blob out of a sci fi movie. Dang it, can't we just forget about it and move on to some patriotic nationalism?

Nice Read- 107-year-old Pennsylvania family store describes challenges for mom-and-pop shops: 'Fighting to keep going'

There are stores and businesses in general like that all through Georgia. Not as many as say 20 years ago of course, but they're there. Dollar General is their biggest problem. They like setting up at crossroads in the middle of nowhere. These type small businesses in the metro area I'm in...

Anyone still like use wix mahnn filters now?

Geez, if one buys a filter based on bitog feedback, there would be no quality filter. Heck maybe that's true.

12% are paying $1,000+ a month for car loans ...

Do you really think so? I am steadily knocking my expectations down for people, but that's a big notch... I mean to be spending so much money on needless exuberance with no regard to future needs.

    Holley Quadrajet EFI

I remember back in the day when a carb would act like this, folks would say "yeah, it's vapor locked". I don't know where that vapor was supposed to be, and the carb was always full of fuel... but that's what they'd say.

How easy is your oil filter access?

Taurus is not too bad but oil drips all over the starter and runs underneath. Expedition is average difficulty but if it's too tight the plastic shield will need to come off. Trailblazer is somewhat difficult, and that's after I've removed the bottom cover. It's sort of like a plastic skid...

    OEM/OE vs Aftermarket parts

Depends on what I'm working on and what the part is. Sensors, ignition parts, etc I think are critical to be OEM. Filters, brakes, gaskets, etc aftermarket. My old '02 Taurus will get "just good enough" aftermarket axles where as my wife's van would get OEM or premium aftermarket. Sometimes OEM...

Does anyone else lament the demise of the V8?

Yeah V8's are slowly becoming just for "musclecars" and carry a big markup, unlike an old reliable 350 or 302. I gawk at how accepting society is becoming of expensive, low quality junk that seems to be purposefully designed to last less than each prior design.

Getting older, it happens,,,some old friends you might know.

I literally could not care less, but the author of that article finds it of some value. I guess most people just take it at face value.

Why would a torque convertor go bad?

FB in my area beats any other source as far as volume. But the sellers - they are by huge majority sketchy looking folks. Lots of scams too. FB seems to relish it.
