    Focus and Cobalt owners: MPG?

I have an '05 Saturn Ion clone. 2.2 Ecotec and 5 speed manual. 32-34 MPG in 'country' driving. Not really highway. not really city. Not easy-going, nor boy-racer.

Are Bridgestone tires safe and reliable?

FS/BS tires are fine. I prefer BS, but either are fine. ALL tires need proper maintenance to be safe.

    Engine destruction stories

Not sure if this is survival or distruction. Abuse?...Yes! Update on the story above...MIL now understands how important it is to have oil INSIDE the engine, and not on the garage floor. P.S. Didn't someone, a long time ago, post a link to some kids blowing a rotor on an RX-7?

    2006 VW GLI requirements

Follow what the Owner's Manual states. Maintain proof of all service. (Hopefully the 1.8T debacle is behind them.)

    Nissan Engines

No, I have never had any of my oils sampled. The manual says 3500 miles fro severe, 7000 miles for normal service. 5000 I feel is a cood compromise. I should also say 3 months or 5000 miles. This last 3 month OCI only had 3200 miles. Chaniging at 3200 is overkill with SM oil...but an oil change...

Don't port gas in crystal clear plastic...5G water jugs

This problem might solve itself? 80's era Audi wiring + 1 gallon of gas... I just hope he doesn't go down for arson!

    computer memory

If you changed out the HD, you can add/swap memory. It is easy. 1 - locate slots. 2 - unclip chip & remove. 3 - Insert new chip & secure clips. Or any combination of these steps that suit your need. You can Google the web for more instructions/pictures. Add one 256 dimm, then see how the...

I guess every PSD get a change, too?!?!?

    Roof rack and MPG

Ditto on removing the xbars. The rails won't effect MPG much at all, but the xbars act like air hooks. Many years ago, I had a diesel Rabbit. Got 49 mpg . With bike rack = 43. 1 or 2 fork-mounted bikes = 38 .

    Nissan Engines

A bit off topic, but the wife's Quest with the famous 3.5 V6 uses less than 1/4 quart of oil per 5000 miles. No difference between SuperTech, Exxon & Motorcraft. I just changed out to Trop-Artic this weekend (don't expect much change from MC, except 60 cents less per quart). All 5w30.

07 Chevrolet Tahoe, post your opinion.

EVERYONE I know that has any variation of a full-size GM truck complains about loose-as-a-goose steering after ~30k miles. They wonder why their $40k+ truck's steering is about as responsive as turtle crossing a road, after just a year or two if grocery-getting. Soft bushings, sloppy control...

Don't port gas in crystal clear plastic...5G water jugs

I vote this as Darwin Award of the Week! It is ILLEAGAL to dispense gasoline into UNAPPROVED containers. You and the station operator should be brought up on Federal charges. FYI - Only put gas in 'gas cans'. Gas cans are RED and labeled “GASOLINE”. 80's era Audi with a milk jug of gasoline...

Do you balance when you rotate your tires?

I rebalance only when needed. Usually after a tire repair. Well...every set of Goodyear tires I have had needed at least one rebalance. Never on a Michelin, Bridgstone/FS, Kumho, Yokohama.

    Dayton Quadra SE Tires

Dayton tires are just re-labled Firestones & Bridgstome products. A great bargain if you ask me. Just before I got rid of a late model Jetta, I replaced the Michelin MXV4+ OE tires with some RoadKing (Tires Plus Firestone private label) WideTrack tires. They are a generic FireHawk SS20. The RK...

07 Chevrolet Tahoe, post your opinion.

Looks like the same OLD design with new sheet metal and new plastic inside. Does it have rack & pinion steering yet? Or should I keep watching re-runs of M*A*S*H to see inovations from Willies that evolved to consumer products? Don't get me wrong, GM is doing wonderful things to their product...

    New Saturn oil change

We've had an 05 Ion for about 7 months. I don't worry too much about the oil. I drive the crap out of the car as if it were a go-kart. I use the cheapest 5w30 and a ST 9018 every 5k or sooner...if the OLM light were to come on. It hasn't yet. Don't sweat the small stuff. I think the best deal...

    Tirerack

I have ordered several set of tires from Tirerack. Even if you buy thier roadhazard, you come out miles ahead of most retail stores package deals on namebrand tires. The key is to have a shop that won't soak you for the install. Many people say shops won't install because they didn't turn a...

    How to save 0.001 mpg

This is no shocker. GM was imbedding antennae in glass since the 60's. Nissan has thier diversity set-up. And many euro manf's are going to the shark fin for cell/radio/sat combination. (I'm sure all will follow.)
