I haven't bothered with BatteryMinder as you have to send the units to them. Perhaps I should. I did have an older one fail also, but two others are working fine.

I have had 2 of these Northern bought Battery Minders fail. Other older Battery Minder units have worked well. Not sure what is going on with the new units, but they are very light in weight.The older (and heavy) units are still working.

I thought varnish buildup was one cause of the rattle. Causes the gear lock pin to engage slowly.

I would never trust a HF maintainer or any other cheap one. Sad though that the higher end (and cost) units like the BatteryMinder occasionally have similar problems.

I can try that, but I have a Scangage showing tranny temps of about 130-150-deg. Wouldn't a restriction cause much higher temperatures, well over 200-deg?

Regarding a scanner, getting one with capabilities like ABS bleed would be handy. Quick search shows units like Foxwell NT630 or HF Zurich units. Not sure how to tell if they can get transmission level codes.

I had OReillys check for codes but they showed none. Looks like a more advanced reader is needed. I am OK buying a scanner. Any suggestions on a good one for a DIY guy like myself?
