I want to waste money on a transmission additive

My dealer recommends BG additives (perhaps for spiffs)?! Most tranny shops recommend Lubeguard. I have the 10-speed in my ‘22 Sierra with 116K miles already. BG-ATC for 10-speeds is what I put in it. I’m sure BG has something for your tranny. The Lubeguard is also good. I change the fluid myself...

Oil Specs & Testing Approved Lubricants

Perhaps that’s why is burns 1.5 qts over 7.5K miles in my ‘22 Sierra 5.3L. Did it last 3 oil changes with 0W20 SS. Even QSUP has a higher flash point than SS.

GM to recall more than 461,000 vehicles over transmission issues, NHTSA saysBy Reuters

I have racked up 110K miles on my 2022 Sierra. Had the dealer flush it first round at 70K miles for $420 and had them add BG ATC for 8,9,10-speed transmissions. I changed the pan fluid today myself. 4 quarts of Valvoline ULV on sale at NAPA for $6.49/qt. Took 1 hour. Sucked pan till empty (4...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w30 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 2.7

I worked 8+ years in an automotive testing facility and we had a book on how everything can affect efficiency i.e. tires, wind drag, oil, etc. When I read about a certain oil (or additive) yielding 2-3 or more mpg, I wag my head and chuckle. Impossible.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w30 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 2.7

Valvoline is known to run well in GM engines. I have a ‘22 like yours that has run up 110,000 miles. I used QS Ultimate Durability until about 75,000 miles, and never used an ounce of oil in 7,500 OCI. Then, I switched to Amsoil SS for 3 oil changes and use 1 quart between oil changes. May go...

Gear Oil at 20,000 miles in Ford 9.75” Diff

Amsoil is good in limited slip applications. Is not ideal for locking differentials. I worked in an automotive testing facility and am not fond of one-size-fits-all lubricants. GM has two different rear diffs on 4X4 and they require different 75W85 fluids. Never had any issues since I switched...

Help me pick a Diff Fluid, 23 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4

I’ve used Amsoil for 30+ years. Only problem was putting Amsoil 75W90 in rear diff. Made loud clicking noises when stopping. My rear is SU8 and does not like friction modifiers. I put the factory spec back in, then ordered Motul, works well in locking differentials, no friction modifiers.

Gear Oil at 20,000 miles in Ford 9.75” Diff

I use Amsoil engine oil, but am not impressed with their differential fluid. Had similar issue. I like Motul differential fluid. Cheap at Summit.

Amsoil 75W-85 EP Gear Lube and ULV ATF

GM differentials are very picky. AC Delco has two different 75W85 fluids. My 2022 Sierra has the SU8 rear locking differential. I put Amsoil SS 75W90 in the rear differential and it was making noise. I drained it and put in the proper fluid bought at the dealer. The noise stopped.

Who else doesn't use tire dressings?

I need to get me some of that. I have a black metallic truck and every time I wash it, there are 100 black spots on each side of my truck from the tire dressing. It gets put on free at the car wash I go to. Before I retired and washed it by hand every week, I tried every brand you could get on...

Can we do more with used oil?

I used to work at an oil refinery. We received used oil, and blended it in with crude oil coming in from the ships and tank farms, en route to the refining process.

    Where to now, Amsoil?

You are correct. Now that I know how many mile I can go before it starts burning oil, I will change it. Thank you.
