    07 Chevy 3500, 8.1L 123k, 3k Valvoline 10w30

Oil and filter were changed during sample. Truck is used for welding on gas/oil fields, and during this run hauled a 15K 5th wheel travel trailer from texas to wyoming. 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 3500 8.1L (496cid) V8 Code: Oil Valv10w30 Miles in Use 3K Miles 123K Sample Taken...

07 Chevy Silverado 8.1 welding truck

Great question, I'm not sure the oil level was checked yet. He said he had an oil change done right before leaving and the trip put about 1200 miles on the truck. I'll check with him and see, and I'm going to try to push again to have an oil sample done.

07 Chevy Silverado 8.1 welding truck

Sounds like the consensus from the group is change the oil & filter, and drop the valvoline conventional in favor or Rotella or some other HDEO. Changing from a 10w30 to either 5w40 or 10w40 will most likely provide the higher oil pressure he wants to see. In his application, are there any down...

07 Chevy Silverado 8.1 welding truck

Brother in the law is a pipeline welder, and just acquired a new heavy duty travel trailer. On his most recent trip from South Texas up to Wyoming pulling the travel trailer, and welder/welding bed he became concerned with oil pressure (TT is about 15K 5th wheel). Engine has about 120K mile and...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 6k miles, 05 Chevy 2500HD

The two year option sounds really good. Depending on how the OE looks at the end of the year I may give that a shot. I wasn't sure how well the TBN would be at the end of 12 months but obviously it had quite a bit left.

    2005 Chevy 2500HD, NP1 TCase, 63K miles

Yes, this is one of the many with the pump rub problem. I had a Tahoe that developed the pin hole leak. On its uoa the magnesium (housing) numbers were elevated to severe numbers. Didn't see that on this first sample though.

    2005 Chevy 2500HD, NP1 TCase, 63K miles

I assume this is standard Dex III, this is not a transfer case that requires the Auto-Trak II. This was on the factory fill. Indymac I'm not sure on the cost, I figured this gave me all of the info I really needed. Metal count was too high, and it was good to change the fluid. Run the next...

    Allison Transynd, 46k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

No, everything on the blackstone report is the Allison Transynd. Before I switched over to that fluid, and before I ever did a UOA, I had VMAX in the transmission. Both of the UOA's on the report are from the first fill of Allison Transynd.

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 20k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

I certainly understand your point when talking about the smaller sumps and the extended miles you need on something like an AME which costs quite a bit more than a dino oil. When you are looking at the ROI, how much weight is placed on things like time and labor? I would venture to guess the...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 20k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

I drained the oil right after the OLM hit 2x (9 months). I'm hoping to take this next one up to 3x, if not further. I agree that Amsoil warrants up to 3x, I just feel safer watching and gradually climbing. I'm still new to the whole extended drain interval thing, so I don't mind spending a few...

    Allison Transynd, 46k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

Yeah I think it has a 7.4 or 7.5 cSt, so I was puzzled by the numbers of the first and second sample a bit. The previous fill was Valvoline Maxlife ATF, and we did a flush with 16 quarts of the Allison Transynd (Allison 1000 holds 12.7). The allison fluid is supposed to contain no VI, so...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 20k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

Don't really miss the 5w40. During the run I also changed out the gear oil from Valvoline to Amsoil so it's not a true comparison, but the MPG actually ticked up just slightly. These are according to the GM computer. VPBE Amsoil Miles 8210.9 19778.4 Fuel 466.8 1110.1 MPG 17.6 17.8 Avg (MPH)38...

This fill is still in service. This is the Castrol (Allison branded) transmission fluid made to Allison specs.

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 20k miles, 04 Chevy 2500HD

Oil was changed at the time of this last test. First two runs 6k/8k were using Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme. The 9k/12k/20k were the first run of AME. Refilled with another batch of the Amsoil AME.

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 6k miles, 05 Chevy 2500HD

Never did I say that 6k mile OCI was the goal for this vehicle. After the first year, I did say I have a better idea of how many miles/yr they are putting on the truck. This vehicle was in the shop due to several issues, mostly related to the owner. In addition the UOA should provide you an...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 6k miles, 05 Chevy 2500HD

This motor has run conventional for the first 6 years of it's life, so I'm going to give it a few oil runs to develop a trend on the synthetic before coming to the conclusion. I don't expect the first UOA to provide me with all of the info I need, including the mileage the oil will be in...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 6k miles, 05 Chevy 2500HD

Love your passion dnewton! No offense taken, I'm always up for a heated discussion. The truck isn't in Arlington, TX it's actually in Placid, TX. I'm in Arlington. Their average low isn't much different, about 32F. I was actually referring to cold flow at startup. According to the Motor Oil...

GM AutoTrak II, Unknown mileage, 04 Tahoe

GM pump rub was exactly right. I meant to provide a follow-up a while back and just kept forgetting. Got back under after receiving the alarming responses and found the under side coated in fluid. The shop thought it was the rear seal, but after I inspected further I found the pinhole leak...

    Amsoil AME 15w40, 6k miles, 05 Chevy 2500HD

We started off with the AME for the first run not knowing the expected miles per yr they would hit. I think all agree after seeing the 6k run that is not the right oil. Last year the truck was used to pull 10k-11k loads of hay much more frequently than in previous seasons. The owner was not...

    Unknown coolant/miles, 118K, 97 Chevy C3500

Coolant was not changed at the time of this test, but looks like it should be. Not sure of the history of this vehicle, not sure what fluid is in there now or how long it's been in service. I assume OAI copied the manufacturer/model from the diff fluid I sent. This is for a 7.4L 454 V8 in a 97...
