New Hemi 5.7L, what oil would you use?

Thanks everyone, again! I know of the Chrysler spec and I too find it funny that its the same engine in different vehicles but that have to meet different specs. In my vehicle, though, I need to meet MS 6395 and the manual only calls for 5W-20. If Im worried about 5W-20 being too thin, it...

New Hemi 5.7L, what oil would you use?

Thanks for all the replies, keep em coming if anyone has anything else to add! Again, all anecdotal, but Ive seen a bunch of sources mention how much quieter and/or smoother the 5.7L runs with 5W-30. I know its not Chrysler's spec, though. Pretty sure they would never be able to tell anyway (if...

New Hemi 5.7L, what oil would you use?

I checked the 2017 manual and for the 1500 with 5.7L it no longer shows 5W-30 can be used. Still shows it can be used for the 3.6L and the 2500/3500, presumably because they dont have MDS. Anecdotal evidence says 5W-30 works perfectly fine even with MDS. I tend to agree, I know oil...

New Hemi 5.7L, what oil would you use?

Thanks guys. Yes, the "heard" has been from other forums. Ive always thought of -20 as a means for a manufacturer to meet CAFE regulations, not really in the interest of making an engine go 200K miles. Chrysler specs 5W-20, but says 5W-30 can be used if 5W-20 is not available (define "not...

New Hemi 5.7L, what oil would you use?

Hello fellow BITOG-ers! Picked up a RAM with the 5.7: Hemi a few weeks ago. Only has 450 miles on it right now but I started Googling around for recommended oils and fell onto the massive Synth Oil thread on ram forum, along with a thread here about "Hemi tick". My engine is not ticking (at...

Castrol GTX Ultraclean VOA looks great!

Interesting. I wonder if this would be good for a Hemi 5.7 that specs 5W-20 even though lots of thinking is that -20 is too thin.

    LSP3 VS FLUID FILM

Thanks guys. Ill look into that as an alternate product. Looks like it would apply the same way as the Corrosion Free stuff I just applied, so no big deal. How long are you getting before re-application is necessary? Or do you just do it once a year regardless?
